The card presents several races of interest for form students, while punters can also explore our Daily Racing Multi options as the meeting takes shape.

Ipswich Tips January 15

Great Northern Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 2 No. 6 High Class Roller

High Class Roller has finished in the top three at two of his four starts this preparation, with the first of those coming second-up at Grafton.

He was beaten four-and-a-half lengths into third when contesting a 1600m Class 2 handicap on a wet surface on that occasion.

A below-par run on firm ground at Ballina followed, before the gelding returned to form with a second placing in a Class 1 & Maiden Plate at Lismore earlier this month.

That Lismore effort came over 2000m for the first time this prep, with the added distance appearing to suit the son of Spirit Of Boom.

Trainer Matthew Dunn’s stable is ticking over well and while a wide draw is a concern, the four-year-old may be capable of surprising.

Racing And Sports Benchmark 70 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Runaround Sue

Runaround Sue has a strong record at Ipswich, registering two wins and two top-three finishes from five starts at the track.

Two of those performances have come this preparation, including a dominant Class 3 handicap win over this distance two runs back.

The six-year-old raced on soft ground when clearing out to complete a double that day before extending her winning sequence at Toowoomba.

She took out a Benchmark 60 handicap over 870m on good ground there, with the first leg of her hat-trick coming over 1000m at Dalby.

This is tougher again, but from barrier two and with Karl Zechner likely to roll forward, the mare looks hard to peg back.

Seven News Class 3 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Zou Big Boy

Zou Big Boy is a dual course winner from five starts, including a Benchmark 62 success on heavy ground here late in May last year.

That win completed a treble, with the first leg of that sequence coming in a 1690m maiden at this venue the previous month.

While winless in four runs this preparation, the gelding has finished top four on each occasion, including at Sunshine Coast last time.

He was beaten just under two lengths into fourth in a 1600m Class 3 Plate on that occasion.

Soft ground would be ideal, but he also handles good going and with Leah Martyn’s two-kilogram claim, he can return to winning ways.

Gordon’s Gin Benchmark 58 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 6 No. 5 I Stole It

I Stole It has generally been running well in defeat since finishing fourth over 1200m at this level here back in October.

He was beaten just under three-and-a-half lengths on good ground that day, with four of his next five starts resulting in top-three finishes.

Those efforts have all come at the Gold Coast and include a narrow defeat under Jett Newman in a Benchmark 0–58 last time.

The form of that race has since been franked, with the winner and sixth both going on to score at their next starts.

Drawn wide again, the gelding is usually ridden with restraint and on a forecast Good 4 surface he looks value.
