Hawkesbury Tips July 19

Essential Asset & Fire CG&E Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Hawkesbury Value Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Iniesta

Although well beaten on debut, Iniesta showed improvement at his second race start and looks capable of taking another step forward first-up.

The three-year-old failed to feature on a Heavy track at Randwick Kensington before producing a much-improved fifth in a 10-runner maiden at Scone on Good ground.

That form has worked out well, with the runner-up among several horses to win subsequently after also performing with credit in black-type company.

Tom Charlton's representative has since been gelded and has impressed in his trials ahead of this return.

Barrier eight shouldn't pose too much of an issue, and Dylan Gibbons' mount rates as a value chance to break through.

Hawkesbury Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 14 Zunesha

A runner-up at both career starts, Zunesha has done little wrong and looks well placed to go one better on Sunday.

She again found the line well when beaten just over a length in a 1000m maiden at Wyong on a Soft track just over a fortnight ago.

The winner of her Kembla Grange debut has since scored at Canterbury, while the step up in distance looks another positive.

Barrier seven is no concern despite the large field, with Tyler Schiller another positive booking given his strong record at Hawkesbury this season.

Matthew Smith's filly looks capable of breaking through at her first start on a Good surface.

Richmond Club Class 1 & Maiden Plate Tips (Race 4)

Hawkesbury Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Portsmouth

After almost two years on the sidelines, Portsmouth has improved with each run this preparation and looks ready to break through.

The Irish-bred was well held on his Australian debut before producing encouraging efforts at Warwick Farm and then over 1800m at this track last start.

Despite racing keenly, he was beaten just over half a length in a similar race, suggesting another rise in distance will suit.

Front-running tactics are expected again from an inside draw, with Braith Nock retaining the ride.

Representing the powerful Annabel & Rob Archibald stable, he looks capable of recording the second win of his career.

Hawkesbury Roughie - Race 8 No. 1 Apollo Ridge

Apollo Ridge has already shown an affinity for Hawkesbury, breaking his maiden over this course and distance in December.

The four-year-old rounded out his previous campaign with another victory at Wyong, taking his career tally to two wins from just seven starts.

Both victories came on Good tracks, and the wet conditions were unlikely to have suited when resuming from a spell.

The drop in grade, return to a firmer surface and inside draw all look positives for his second-up assignment.

With natural improvement expected, he appeals as a genuine roughie capable of outperforming his market quote.
