Richmond vs Hawthorn, Round 19 2026 - Expert Prediction

Hawthorn have been one of the form sides of the competition. They thumped Carlton by 64 points last week to snap the Blues' seven-game winning streak, kicking 10 goals to 2 in the second half in wet conditions. Jack Ginnivan (3 first-half goals, 25 disposals), Connor Macdonald (31 touches, 7 clearances) and Blake Hardwick (25 disposals, 5 marks) were all outstanding, and Lloyd Meek filled in admirably at ruck for the injured Ned Reeves (knee). Hawthorn can push for a top-two spot with a favourable run of fixtures against Richmond, Essendon and North Melbourne to come.
Richmond, on the other hand, were run over by Melbourne by 46 points last week, their sixth straight loss, leaving them 2-15 and 17th on the ladder. Tim Taranto (26 disposals, a goal) and captain Toby Nankervis (2 goals) were among the few positives, but coach Adem Yze's side continues to blood young talent in what's become a lost season, just 9 wins from 63 games under his tenure.
Richmond have covered in 7 of their last 10 games regardless of final result, and only 3 of the 7 AFL favourites handed a spread above 50 points this season have actually covered it, important note that two of those came against Richmond themselves, so the market has been burnt backing big Tigers underdogs before, but blowouts above 50 points remain the exception rather than the rule.
Take Richmond +51.5, Over 61.5 on Richmond's own team total, Jack Ginnivan for 2 or more goals, and Tim Taranto for 25+ disposals as the plays for Sunday afternoon at the MCG.
- Richmond have covered spreads in 7 of their last 10 games this season, and history says lines above 50 points are rarely covered, only 3 of 7 this year have gone the favourite's way.
- Richmond's own scoring has held up even in heavy losses, going down by 46 to Melbourne while still posting 65 points, a total north of 61.5 is well within range even in another defeat.
- Jack Ginnivan has kicked 7 goals in his last three games and looked dangerous in the wet against Carlton, Richmond's developing backline offers similar opportunities.
- Tim Taranto posted a team-high 26 disposals in Richmond's last outing and remains one of the most durable, high-usage players in a rebuilding Tigers midfield.
Head to Head Stats
Hawthorn have dominated recent meetings, winning their last encounter by 65 points in round 8 last year and averaging a 43.8-point winning margin across the last four clashes between these two.
All-time, Richmond actually lead the head-to-head 93 wins to 74, and the venue record at the MCG sits at 32 wins for Hawthorn to 26 for Richmond - a reminder this rivalry has plenty of history even amid Hawthorn's current dominance.
Richmond Tigers Form Analysis
Richmond's 46-point loss to Melbourne was their sixth straight defeat, but Toby Nankervis chipped in 2 goals from the ruck and Tim Taranto led all Richmond players with 26 disposals and a goal. The Tigers reported no fresh injuries out of the game.
At 2-15, Richmond sit 17th on the ladder and have won just 9 of 63 games under coach Adem Yze, with the club firmly focused on developing its younger list for the remainder of the season.
Hawthorn Hawks Form Analysis
