Flemington Tips September 13

Race 1 - 12:10PM TAB We're On Tips (1100m)

15. She’s An Artist showed plenty of promise in her first prep, winning her first two starts, which included a dominant display over this track and trip on June 21. She then went under as a $1.30 favourite before a spell in what looked an end-of-prep effort, but she still split two subsequent winners that day.

The form has held up strongly, with Bridal Waltz, who beat her home, winning the Group 3 Bletchingly at her next outing. She’s since moved well when winning a September 1 jump-out.

7. Stolli Bolli brings race fitness having placed in her last two at Moonee Valley, and she beat home subsequent Caulfield winner Keep Your Cool last start. Her straight-track run in the Group 1 Coolmore was sound and the wide alley could suit.

18. Rich Dottie has a strong fresh record with both career wins coming first-up, and she’s twice placed over this track and trip. She maps to be in the firing line again.

16. Tarpaulin resumes for the Hayes team and looks the value knockout. He was competitive in last year’s Group 2 Danehill here, and recent jump-outs suggest he’s ready to run well.

Selections: 15,7,18,16.

Race 2 - 12:40PM Schweppes Poseidon Stakes Tips (1100m)

3. Legacy Bound comes into this with a profile that mirrors last year’s Poseidon winner Growing Empire. He was dominant in the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes in Adelaide, where Mark Zahra partnered him to an effortless victory, and that rider stays on for this fresh assignment. The parallels are clear, with both gallopers bursting onto the scene as precocious juveniles.

The slight difference is that Growing Empire had a run under his belt before taking out this feature, whereas Legacy Bound resumes here without that fitness edge. Still, his talent was evident in that Adelaide romp, and he shapes as one of the more exciting youngsters heading into the spring.

2. Tycoon Star brings the right form, having taken out a fast-run McNeil Stakes at Caulfield second-up. He was also successful in the Maribyrnong Plate at his only previous try up the Flemington straight, which gives him a crucial edge.

5. McGaw was honest when second in the McNeil but was no match for Tycoon Star. He’ll strip fitter third-up but does need to find a few lengths to turn the tables.

4. Shining Smile lacks the star power of some rivals but he’s ultra-consistent down the straight, never missing a place in five attempts and winning his last three.

Selections: 3,2,5,4.

Race 3 - 1:15PM Rubaroc Exford Plate Tips (1400m)

1. Vinrock should be better suited rising to 1400m after labouring fresh in a fast-run Caulfield event, where his work beforehand suggested he’d need the hit-out. That run should bring him on, and this assignment will provide a clearer gauge of his spring prospects.

He was unbeaten in three runs as a juvenile, claiming the Group 2 VRC Sires’ over this track and trip before adding the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ at Randwick. All of those came on spacious circuits, so the Caulfield defeat can be forgiven, and he’s entitled to improve sharply second-up.

10. Fastoso continues to progress with racing and built confidence when scoring at Bendigo last start. He is likely a prep or two away from fully furnishing, but the improvement has been clear each time he steps out and he now deserves his shot at this level.

12. Just Kick has had three starts and hasn’t enjoyed much luck, including when missing the kick here at her second run. She worked early at Sandown first-up before boxing on fairly, and draws to get a much kinder run this time.

4. Prestige Ole hardly put a foot wrong in his first prep and was a Flemington 1400m winner in March. The depth of his form is questionable, though, and he faces a stronger test here.

Selections: 1,10,12,4.

Race 4 - 1:50PM Cap D'Antibes Stakes Tips (1100m)

This shapes as a lottery for punters, and the early market reflects that with little between a host of runners. There’s a mix of formlines from across the country and, despite a big field, very little straight-course experience on show. In fact, Cavalry Girl is the only prior Flemington winner and she goes around at massive odds.

14. Akaysha was a race morning scratching from Canterbury on Wednesday due to the wet track, and that could prove a blessing as she looks well placed here fresh. A strong filly with a touch of class, she beat Beadman on debut, who went on to win his next two including a dominant Group 3 success. Her profile suggests she’s capable of measuring up to this grade.

19. Biologics didn’t beat much on debut at Pakenham in May but the authority of that win was notable, circling the field to put them away with ease. She was immediately spelled and has trialled up soundly ahead of this return.

4. Inkaruna scored on debut in February before two even efforts in Sydney. She has been given three quiet trials leading in and should be forward enough for a first-up tilt.

6. Bellazaine was a Listed winner first-up last prep and narrowly missed making it a double second-up. With two trials and a jump-out to prepare, she looks ready to fire fresh again.

Selections: 14,19,4,6.

Race 5 - 2:30PM Tontonan Stakes Tips (1400m)

11. Robrick makes some appeal at big odds given his strong Flemington record, with three placings from as many runs here including a comfortable win at his only 1400m attempt. He’s effective at this trip and looks suited getting back to this circuit.

His Moonee Valley return was better than it reads, having been forced to settle further back than ideal from a wide draw before being held up briefly at the 200m. He should’ve finished closer, and that race has already produced two subsequent winners. With 7kg less to carry and a soft draw, he can be in the mix.

1. Rise At Dawn commands respect at this level, and he usually comes to hand quickly with three wins from four fresh attempts. One of those came over this track and trip in February, and his only miss in six Flemington starts was in the Group 1 All-Star Mile.

4. Cafe Millenium looks best kept to 1400m, and he arrives off a strong Listed victory in Adelaide. He’ll get back and be charging late if the tempo allows.

14. Emirate is trained by Chris Waller, who has prepared the last two winners of this race. He covered ground first-up in weaker company and strips fitter.

Selections: 11,1,4,14.

Race 6 - 3:05PM HKJC World Pool Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m)

11. Royal Insignia didn’t run out a strong mile when ending his autumn in the Australian Guineas, but he’s already a Group 3 winner over six furlongs and 1200m–1400m looks his right range. He sticks to 1200m second-up and his January win over Tropicus is starting to read well.

He’s yet to be tested down the Flemington straight at the sprint trips, but there was merit to his Caulfield return when unsuited on soft ground and working home in the inferior section of the track. With that run under the belt, he can improve sharply.

5. Star Patrol never fired a shot in two runs last spring, but he’s a proven straight-course specialist, having won this race two years ago before doubling up on Derby Day. His jump-outs this time in have been sound and he's back to his pet set-up.

2. Airman sits near the top of the second tier of Australian sprinters, and this is well within reach. He boasts strong fresh figures and has had three trials to prepare, suggesting he’s ready to go.

1. Tuvalu has had his share of issues, but he’s a proven class performer and his good fresh record keeps him in the mix.

Selections: 11,5,2,1.

Race 7 - 3:40PM Lexus Archer Stakes Tips (2500m)

4. Revelare has built an impressive record with seven wins and a second from 10 starts, and he looks to secure a Melbourne Cup berth in the Archer Stakes third-up. Unbeaten at Flemington, he rises to 2500m for the first time and his breeding supports the trip, with grandam Honor Babe a Sydney Cup winner over 3200m.

He was tough scoring at Caulfield last start but is better suited returning here, having strung together back-to-back wins earlier in the year as part of a five-race winning streak. Proven in both fast and slow run races and tactically versatile, he also meets Bur Dubai 5kg better from their March 1 clash.

12. Bur Dubai continues to build and produced a peak effort third-up last prep under a similar program. He gets 6kg relief from his last outing at Moonee Valley, although this is a far stronger contest and will demand another step forward.

8. Newlook was fair on his Australian debut and then only battled when eighth behind Revelare at Caulfield. He should take improvement stepping to 2500m third-up off a long break, and his European form sits in this distance range.

2. Post Impressionist hasn’t matched his strong Australian debut 18 months ago, but he has the class and comes through the right stable and jockey combination.

Selections: 4,12,8,2.

Race 8 - 4:20PM Crown Makybe Diva Stakes Tips (1600m)

5. Via Sistina drifted to $2.80 when resuming in the Winx Stakes, but the early market again looks about right with her as favourite. A ten-time Group 1 winner, she held off stablemate Aeliana in that August 23 clash, and both have claims coming out of the race.

She disappointed second-up in this event last year, though that was on testing ground, and she showed in the autumn that she can lift sharply with a strong Randwick victory over this trip second-up.

6. Antino looks the big improver second-up. The Queenslander entered Cox Plate discussions with brilliant back-to-back wins in May at 1800m and 2000m, but he’s always profiled more as a sprinter-miler. His record at 1600m is strong, as are his second-up stats, and his Caulfield return looked a blowout run after being forced into an early move. He can bounce hard here.

3. Aeliana was excellent fresh chasing Via Sistina in the Winx Stakes. The four-year-old looks set to thrive as the distances increase, having ended her autumn with a dominant Australian Derby win after finishing a luckless but close second in the Rosehill Guineas. She remains one of the most exciting gallopers in training and will only get better deeper into the spring.

1. Mr Brightside sets up kinder on the map than he did in the Memsie Stakes and is searching for a hat-trick of Makybe Diva Stakes victories. A nine-time Group 1 winner, this might be his chance to get the better of rivals who are peaking later in the spring.

Selections: 5,6,3,1.

Race 9 - 4:55PM Kirin Ichiban Let's Elope Stakes Tips (1400m)

3. Lazzura was spelled after back-to-back wins at her first two starts and was then mostly competitive last season as a three-year-old, often bumping into smart stablemates Lady Shenandoah and Autumn Glow.

She brought up win number three in March, surrounded by consistent efforts, and arguably her best came first-up on August 23 when producing the fastest last 400m of the Randwick program. Back against her own sex here, this looks an easier assignment.

7. On Display was too classy on August 30 when scoring softly at BM78 level. She had already shown her class in the autumn with a Listed victory and still appears on an upward spiral.

6. Abounding was a big-priced tip for us in the Cockram and should’ve finished closer than her eventual third. A Group 1 placegetter in Queensland before a short break, she’s travelled down well.

14. Jenni The Fox is better than what we saw second-up at The Valley, and a tongue tie goes on here. Third-up last prep she chased home Treasurethe Moment over this trip.

Selections: 3,7,6,14

Race 10 - 5:25PM Ronald McDonald House Charities Trophy Tips (1700m)

6. Kingswood hasn’t raced since November but has had three jump-outs to prepare and came to hand quickly last campaign. He announced himself with a dominant BM78 romp fresh on stable debut for Gavin Bedggood before following up with a Group 3 Coongy Cup win at Caulfield.

That form has held up fairly and he looks well placed to make an impact again first-up, even in what shapes as a tricky affair to close the program. The 1700m trip is a suitable starting point and he's a leading chance.

9. Young Werther feels like he’s been around forever, but the veteran has competed well in much stronger races than this and has earned more than $2.2 million. First-up he produced the second-fastest last 200m of the August 23 Moonee Valley card against the pattern and can run well again.

17. Plymouth had a tough task fresh and was still beaten a fair way, but the run should bring him on. Winkers go on and he should be better placed here with handier tactics.

4. Globe looks short enough as a sub-$3 favourite but did return bravely, albeit a little flattered by the bias when on speed. He’ll be prominent again.

Selections: 6,9,17,4.
