Belmont Value Bet - Race 3 No. 4 Kraken Time

Kraken Time has yet to fully deliver on the promise he displayed earlier in his career, but the ability is there and he remains lightly raced for a five-year-old. He resumed in July and was then given six weeks between runs, stepping out again on August 30 when facing a tricky set-up.

On that occasion he was good without luck, covering ground and over-racing through the middle stages. Despite those negatives, he still loomed at the top of the straight before peaking late, and his effort to box on showed that he is trending in the right direction.

That performance suggested he is now approaching peak fitness, and history shows he improves deeper into his campaigns. In his first preparation he found his winning touch after a couple of runs, stringing together decent performances once he built momentum.

With natural improvement to come, he looks well placed here and appeals as a genuine value play.

Nicopolis Stakes Tips (Race 4)

Belmont Feature Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Final Siren

Final Siren is a talented sprinter who boasts a strong record and finds the right race here. He resumed on July 5 but had a slight setback afterwards, which saw him freshened before a September 1 trial. That public hit-out could not have been more impressive, as he cruised home to score with plenty in hand.

The gelding is versatile in terms of racing pattern and has shown he can measure up to strong opposition. While a real testing surface would be a query if the forecast rain arrives, he could have a class edge on his opposition.

It is also worth noting that he safely accounted for Stormchaser the last time they clashed, and that galloper has been installed as the early favourite. On that form line alone, Final Siren deserves top billing.

He returns here with his fitness topped off by that strong trial win and he is well placed to make a statement first-up in the Nicopolis Stakes.

Peters Investments Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Doctor Jay

Doctor Jay resumed from a 12-month break on July 30 and was well supported in betting, only to put in a plain performance. That was understandable given the long time away, and he has quickly found form again with improvement at his next two outings.

His latest run on August 30 was the breakthrough, scoring a tough win in slightly stronger company than he meets here. That effort showed he had regained both his fitness and sharpness, and it confirmed he retains the ability that saw him highly regarded earlier in his career.

The step up to 1600m is a small query, as most of his best work has come at shorter trips, but his overall progression suggests he is ready for the challenge. With a solid grounding now behind him, he looks capable of stretching that brilliance a little further.

Punters are still being offered a fair price considering his profile, and he stands out as the best bet of the Belmont card.

Glenroy Chaff Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Belmont Roughie - Race 7 No. 8 Soldanelle

Soldanelle strikes a strong 66+ contest, but that depth also means she goes around at big each-way odds. She has been a consistent mare over her last two preps, with two wins and three placings, and showed her quality with a third-up victory at Ascot last campaign.

Her return on July 26 was excellent, charging late after being held up and arguably unlucky not to win. That effort showed she had come back in terrific order, and she produced closing sectionals that stamped her as one to follow.

Second-up she was flatter, finishing down the track behind Cool Memory, but that run can be forgiven. She tends to improve deeper into her campaigns and was sent out at $7 that day, a clear indicator that the market still respected her chances.

Cool Memory franked the form by bolting in at Listed level last week, which adds strength to her recent runs. With fitness improving and conditions likely to suit, she shapes as a live roughie at odds.
