Racecourse Village Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 1)
Doomben Value Bet - Race 1 No. 10 British Gem
The filly has contested all three career outings in New South Wales and has shown glimpses of ability when ridden quietly.
While she finished down the field in both starts last prep, those efforts weren’t without promise, particularly her Canterbury run.
She was beaten less than four-and-a-half-lengths despite beating just two rivals home in that 1250m event, and she was spelled following that performance.
The daughter of Wootten Bassett returned with a sharp third in her second barrier trial this prep and then finished five lengths fifth back at Newcastle earlier this month.
A change of tactics saw her race handy on that occasion with the runner-up and fourth both winning next start, and Andrew Mallyon’s booking gives her each-way appeal in a thin maiden.

Doomben Best Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Wootten Hyde
There’s plenty to like about the three-year-old who showed solid ability in three earlier appearances at this course.
Two of those outings came on wet ground, including his soft 5 debut when finishing fourth over 1110m in a race that has since produced multiple winners.
He improved sharply when stepping to 1200m on a Good 4 surface next time and he again raced prominently when returning here on soft going in September.
The gelding found only an all-the-way winner too strong on that occasion and he arrives off an impressive recent trial success at Sunshine Coast.
The son of Wootten Bassett remains open to further improvement and with the Soft 7 surface unlikely to bother him he looks ready to break through.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Cutepi
Kris Lees’ mare recorded the third win of her career when scoring over 1000m at Ballina early last month.
She handles all conditions and has wet-track credentials, including a placing on a Heavy 10 at Doomben in April.
Her last two efforts have both been sound, kicking off with a narrow second in an 1100m Benchmark 65 at Gold Coast just over a month ago.
She then finished fifth in a 1200m Class 3 event at Eagle Farm on a soft 5 surface when beaten less than a length.
The daughter of Supido is versatile from a tactical perspective and from the inside draw she is well placed to notch her fourth career victory.
