The Round 13 AFL clash features the resurgent West Coast Eagles facing off against the defensively-strong Port Adelaide Power. West Coast brings momentum with impressive form but faces a Port outfit refreshed after the bye and boasting one of the league’s best defences. While scoring is expected to be low, Port Adelaide’s seasoned midfield and defensive steel give them a narrow edge in what should be a tightly contested match. The smart bet is on total points under, with Port tipped to grind out a close victory.

West Coast Eagles vs Port Adelaide Power, Round 13 2026 - Expert Prediction

The Round 13 clash between West Coast and Port Adelaide shapes as a close contest between two sides that sit in the bottom four.

West Coast have surprised many by banking four wins at the halfway mark of the season and arrive with confidence after putting together one of their strongest three-match stretches in recent years. A win over GWS, a competitive 10-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG and a 30-point victory over Essendon has highlighted the progress they are making under a young and improving list.

Port Adelaide, meanwhile, head into the clash with a 3-8 record but their season has been far more competitive than that suggests. The Power have lost four matches by three points or less and boast a percentage north of 100. Defensively they remain one of the better teams in the competition, conceding just 82 points per game, the fourth-best mark in the AFL.

The Power come off the bye and should be refreshed after a difficult run of results. Their biggest challenge has been generating consistent offence, but this shapes as the type of game that suits them. Port Adelaide's defence has kept them in games all season and this does look a contested, low-scoring battle.

The Eagles have shown significant improvement with their ball movement and pressure in recent weeks. Reuben Ginbey has been steady as a rock down back, Harley Reid continues to provide moments of brilliance around the contest, while Tim Kelly and Tom McCarthy have helped drive cleaner ball use through the middle of the ground.

But while West Coast are trending in the right direction, they face a Port Adelaide side that boast some big names in the the midfield, including Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis, who remain the Power's driving forces and both should relish the challenge.

The earlier meeting between the two sides this season was decided by just two points and there is little to suggest there will be much separating them again. West Coast have the home ground advantage and enter with strong recent form, but Port Adelaide's defensive profile, combined with the extra freshness from the bye, gives them a slight edge.

This shapes as a game where scoring opportunities will be at a premium. Port Adelaide have built their season around restricting opposition scoring, while West Coast's recent improvement has been driven by their defensive structure and pressure around the contest.

The Eagles generated 55 inside 50s against Essendon last week but still managed just 85 points, while Port Adelaide have scored more than 90 points only once in their past five matches. As a result, the total points market looks particularly appealing, with the under well and truly in play.

Corey Durdin also shapes as a strong player prop. He has kicked seven goals in his past three matches against West Coast and should find opportunities if the Power can generate repeat entries inside 50.

Expect a tight and hard-fought contest that remains close throughout before Port Adelaide's experience and defensive strength help them grind out an important victory.

  • The Eagles defeated Port Adelaide earlier this season.
  • The Power are ranked fourth for defence and have lost four matches by three points or less.
  • Corey Durdin has kicked seven goals in his past three matches against the Eagles.
  • Zak Butters has had 30+ disposals in nine of his last 10 matches

Head to Head Stats

The two sides met earlier this season and it was West Coast that handed Port Adelaide a two-point defeat at Adelaide Oval, snapping a four-match losing streak against the Power. The two sides have not met at Optus Stadium since 2021 and it was the Eagles by 37 points in that match.

Standout player performances in the recent head to heads have come from:
  • Zac Butters (Power) – 34 and 38 disposals in his past two against the Eagles.
  • Corey Durdin (Power) – seven goals in his past three matches against West Coast.
  • Jake Waterman (Eagles) – four goals in his most recent outing against the Power.

West Coast Eagles Form Analysis

West Coast come off a promising last three rounds, defeating GWS three weeks ago before knocking over the lowly Essendon side by 30 points last weekend. A competitive 10-point loss to Collingwood in front of 90,000 fans is sandwiched between those two results.

The win against Essendon was set up by better ball use. They went down in clearances but defended well and capitalised on turnover, generating 55 inside 50s to 40 in the 12.13 (85) to 8.7 (55) scoreline in tough conditions at Optus Stadium.

A major factor behind the improvement has been the form of Reuben Ginbey. The key defender continues to develop into one of the competition's premier intercept players and has helped stabilise a backline that was leaking scores earlier in the season.

Tim Kelly had one of his better games of the season, while a host of Eagles had 25 or more disposals. Harley Reid had 24 and lit up the crowd with a classy goal in the second quarter.

Jake Waterman booted three goals and has hit that mark in three of his past four matches, while Milan Murdock also bobbed up with three. Tom McCarthy continued his consistent form and has had 25+ disposals in two of his past three matches, while Tim Kelly has had 25+ in three of his last five, reaching 24 in another.

Port Adelaide Power Form Analysis

Port Adelaide have a win-loss record of 3-8 this season and have lost their past four. The past two have been against Gold Coast (25 points) and Carlton (34 points). The Power have been on the receiving end of some agonisingly close losses, going down by three points or less on four occasions.

Jason Horne-Francis had 32 disposals and kicked three goals against Carlton, while Zak Butters had 28 disposals. The 28 by Butters ended a streak of nine consecutive matches in which he recorded 30+ disposals.

The Power lack depth and have an over-reliance on players such as Butters and Horne-Francis, as well as Mitch Georgiades up forward and Aliir Aliir in the backline. Georgiades has kicked just one goal in each of his past two but had registered 2+ in every match prior to those for a total of 27 for the season.
