Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 7 A Summer Fling

A Summer Fling was a drifting favourite on debut over 1200m at Ascot on December 10 when runner-up behind the smart Like Clockwork.

That filly was already a debut winner and later placed at Saturday level on New Year’s Day before resuming with a May 2 victory and then racing lucklessly at Belmont last Saturday.

The daughter of Pierro quickly atoned with a dominant second-start romp when defeating the handy My Danny Boy in the process.

A Summer Fling was then spelled following a third at Pinjarra as an odds-on favourite after failing to justify the short quote there.

Perhaps there was a desire to see a touch more in her May 4 trial, although she was not knocked around in that Lark Hill heat under Chris Parnham, who stays aboard on race day.

Belmont Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Herault

The trainer-jockey partnership of Jason Miller and William Pike has been a potent one throughout 2025/26.

The pair have combined for nine winners and two placegetters from 17 runners together this season.

Their latest success came with Herault, who justified an odds-on quote first-up at Northam on May 3 when coming from back in the field and defying the pattern of the meeting.

This is clearly harder, although the gelding showed nice ability throughout spring after opening that preparation with back-to-back seconds before a third-up breakthrough.

The potential saver is Strapping Prophet, who gets blinkers on after a good return and has the talent to figure at a fair price.

Belmont Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Ilgiro Delmondo

Her last two victories were both recorded at Belmont when posting back-to-back successes over 2200m earlier in the season.

That included a fourth-up triumph and Ilgiro Delmondo arrives here fourth-up again on Wednesday after three autumn appearances.

Both the sharp drop in grade and rise in distance appear in her favour for this assignment.

The mare has been well held in her past two 1800m attempts at Ascot, although both came in much tougher company and she worked in the latest before tiring late.

Her Class 3 resumption over a mile at Ascot was also a decent effort when beaten under a length and the mare gets nice weight relief after the 3kg claim.
