Caulfield Heath Favourite - Race 1 No. 4 Melbourne Magic
There has always been a good opinion of Melbourne Magic and the placement on Wednesday is further evidence of that.
The lightly raced four-year-old tackles this metropolitan maiden second-up despite coming from an astute stable that is happy to place runners in softer company.
The betting drift suggested he needed the run first-up at Warrnambool, where the gelding resumed on a very testing surface.
Melbourne Magic still showed above-average ability throughout his first campaign, including placings in two strong city maidens.
That included a runner-up finish over this distance behind Illyivy, who became a Saturday metropolitan winner two starts later.

Caulfield Heath Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Rich Dottie
Rich Dottie did not quite come up last campaign, although she still managed a metropolitan placing second-up at Moonee Valley.
The mare was then thrown into the deep end in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint before ending the campaign at Listed level down the Flemington straight.
This is the easiest race Rich Dottie has contested for some time and she won the second of her April lead-up trials on the Heath circuit.
She also opened her account with a debut victory over this track-and-trip as a two-year-old and has been competitive in some aggressive placements.
That includes a third behind Alabama Lass and Gallant Son last year, with both gallopers subsequently measuring up at Group 1 level.

Caulfield Heath Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Royal Flare
The debut victory at Ballarat earlier this season was an impressive one from Royal Flare over six furlongs on a Heavy 8 surface.
The son of Zoustar defeated Cooly and Pasadena that day, with both rivals becoming subsequent metropolitan winners.
Royal Flare then narrowly missed completing the double in a strong Class 3 on Ballarat Cup day.
The gelding raced keenly there before heading to the paddock following the December 6 performance.
While 1000m is an obvious query, Royal Flare looks the best horse in this field going forward and may simply prove too classy.

Caulfield Heath Value Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Strong Box
Dominic Sutton prepares Strong Box, a youngster who was well beaten on debut at Ballarat in May last year as a well-backed favourite.
The three-year-old was then gelded ahead of his April 13 resumption and returned with a soft 1.5-length victory at Seymour.
Strong Box charged from the rear of the field there and recorded the second-fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals of the meeting.
The gelding has since completed a quiet jump-out while remaining at 1000m for this tougher metropolitan assignment.
Strong Box has always shown promise and the Mark Zahra engagement adds confidence from a low draw on Wednesday.
