Balaklava hosts an eight-race provincial program on Wednesday, with several in-form runners and progressive gallopers engaged across the South Australian card.

A number of key form references from recent metropolitan meetings add depth to the program, including multiple runners arriving off strong performances behind subsequent winners.

Balaklava Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Extra Fling

Veteran hoop Todd Pannell is in good form after riding a winning treble at Morphettville last Saturday and he has the debut engagement aboard Extra Fling.

The three-year-old has won all three jump-outs, including bolting in with a Strathalbyn heat on November 17 before heading for a spell.

Extra Fling was equally impressive winning his first autumn hit-out on the Parks circuit before saluting again in decent time under Todd Pannell at Murray Bridge on May 7.

The gelding held off talented Tobikko there, while third-placegetter Harmonic Dancer is also a previous winner.

That form all reads well for this provincial maiden and Extra Fling has remained firm in the early markets.

Balaklava Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Harsh

It was a slow start for the new stable, although rising in distance has seen Harsh improve through her last two appearances.

The first of those came when beaten as favourite over this track-and-trip on April 15.

That race was won by Fringes, who franked the form with a Group 3 victory at her following start.

Harsh then should have won at Strathalbyn on April 29 after being shuffled back in the run and held up before charging home when it was all over to grab third.

The form has also stood up through Eight On The Dot, who has since won twice, including a BM66 at Morphettville last Saturday.

Balaklava Value Bet - Race 8 No. 10 Taino Rocket

Taino Rocket moved nicely in a quiet Balaklava trial last month without being knocked around.

The gelding trialled there without blinkers, which were a key gear change late in his previous campaign.

His two best efforts have both come first-up, including a heavily backed debut victory over Thunder Shoc.

That galloper is now a five-time winner and has also been stakes placed twice.

Taino Rocket was mostly competitive throughout his first campaign for the new stable and the four-year-old looks to have found a suitable race to begin his fourth preparation under Jason Holder.
