Race 1 - 11:59AM Share Bets With Tabtouch Bet Loop Tips (1000m)
One at an each-way price in a competitive opener is 6. Art Session, who bolted in with a trial win at Lark Hill which was the fastest 950m heat of the November 17 set.
The four-year-old only finished outside the money once last prep, which was an end-of-prep seventh on soft ground, and he opened that campaign with a second at Belmont when splitting a useful pair in Repossession and Kay Tee Why.
He then followed up with a Pinjarra win over Desert Whisper, a mare who won three of her next four in Saturday company, and those form lines read well with this galloper returning to his preferred 1000m trip.
At a big price is 5. Surfside Session, another lightly raced sprinter who improved off a runner-up finish fresh to record back-to-back wins before having genuine excuses in his last two when casting a plate and then finding trouble.
3. Magnique heads the market with a strong reference from last Saturday when only rolled by unbeaten Smooth Chino, and he won on the seven-day turnaround in May off a similar pattern when also dropping in trip, while 4. The Calabrese is racing consistently and could chime in late.
Selections: 6, 5, 3, 4.
Race 2 - 12:34PM Liquor Barons Handicap Tips (1800m)
Not easy to separate the market elects in Forever Boy, Funchal and Royal Toronado, who are all coming out of the November 15 event that was won by a flying Asphalt.
5. Funchal just gets the nod, a daughter of Playing God who was Group placed twice over the autumn behind a smart Machine Gun Gracie, and she has a strong fitness base with three runs completed ahead of this assignment.
A return to 1800m looks suitable now and this feels the right part of her preparation for her to hold form.
7. Forever Boy was beaten half a length in the aforementioned Asphalt race, and there is still improvement to come early in the prep with this Michael Grantham-trained galloper.
6. Royal Toronado is honest and what gives him a sniff to turn the tables on those two is a kinder draw than he had on November 15, He won the same race on this program last year and placed in this grade third-up in winter, while 3. Prophet And Power could be the blowout as the likely leader and his only time finishing out of the money in eight Ascot runs was in that November 15 appearance.
Selections: 5, 7, 6, 3.
Race 3 - 1:11PM Quayclean Handicap Tips (1400m)
6. Awesome Boy was our value selection on Railway Stakes Day last Saturday, and there was money for the gelding where he was ridden more positively.
He only found one better in Noteworthy, who had a perfect run and caused somewhat of a shock, and the four-year-old is in slightly easier company here on the backup.
From barrier two he should be able to land straight on the speed under Brandon Louis, and Awesome Boy was a big third-up track-and-trip winner in April where he was well backed at long odds.
8. Fast Harry has won his last four, having been spelled after an Ascot maiden triumph in May, and after a pair of provincial wins at Northam to open his spring campaign, the son of Harry Angel took out a 60+ at Ascot over this track-and-trip on November 15. This is harder but he's flying.
12. Planet Cash could be the blowout with placings at his last two attempts at this trip and grade and a soft draw, while 11. Lova Session doesn’t win out of turn but is often thereabouts and carries 3kg less than last start.
Selections: 6, 8, 12, 11.
Race 4 - 1:51PM Tabtouch Regional Championship: Road To Ascot Tips (1200m)
Not sure there’s a whole lot between the three market elects, who are all coming off heat wins in their respective qualifiers.
The one with the kindest draw is 5. Dreamers Never Die, who broke a little drought when taking out the Kalgoorlie Heat in fine fashion as a well-backed favourite, and the gelding now gets the services of William Pike for this Peter Fernie-trained runner.
The jockey–trainer combo is imposing, with the pair owning a career strike rate better than 31% and 56 winners combined, and now back in form this galloper with tactical versatility is clearly one of the leading hopes.
2. Wineaclocksumwhere is aiming for a hat-trick, with both Albany wins in November being strong including a second-up romp last start, and while the four-year-old draws wide he is likely to push forward under regular rider Tash Faithfull.
1. Bolta has won his last four and improved again when taking out the Geraldton Heat after his narrow November 4 win, while 4. Head’em could be an improver third-up; he tired late when caught in an early speed battle in his WA debut and then was good behind Wineaclocksumwhere, albeit well held.
Selections: 5, 2, 1, 4.
Race 5 - 2:28PM Tabtouch - Sir Ernest Lee-steere Classic Tips (1400m)
I'm looking forward to seeing exciting filly 8. Hot And High in her stakes debut, with the Dion Luciani-trained galloper heading the market for this three-year-old affair.
The rise to 1400m shouldn’t worry her after stepping from 1000m to 1200m at Belmont in November, where she ran the fastest last 600m and 200m of the program and showed a lovely turn of foot in the process.
This is another challenge but perhaps not the deepest Listed race against her own age, and she looks dangerous down on the 53kg minimum.
2. Sherpa Express brings good form from the Placid Ark where the gelding resumed with a runner-up finish behind Luana Miss, who completed a double and isn’t without some claims in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes later in the day, and the son of Bluepoint impressed with his big Northam win in July before being spelled.
7. Riva Aquarama is better placed back to 1400m after briefly looming in the Champion Fillies before feeling the mile late, while 1. Mardusa brings strong form from races behind King Of Light, Heeza Phoenix and co on a WA Guineas path and backs up from last Saturday.
Selections: 8, 2, 7, 1.
Race 6 - 3:05PM Bisley Workwear Handicap Tips (1800m)
Trevor Andrews prepares 7. Magna’s Choice, who faced an unconventional third-up platform in going from 1200m to 1800m on November 15 and had no luck when held up at key stages in the straight.
He again draws wide, which is never ideal over this journey at Ascot, but he should strip fitter with a distance run now under the belt and remains a lightly raced four-year-old on an upward spiral.
9. Starwalker is ticking over fairly well without threatening, and there are a few keys to this galloper at a price given he often finds his best form deeper into a campaign and draws barrier one while stepping out another furlong.
15. Mississippi Dawn finally draws a gate after being forced to deal with wide alleys in her last three attempts, and staying at 1800m gives her every chance to settle closer and bring up win number three.
14. The Crimson Pirate heads the market as a talented galloper, but while the ability is obvious he does look short enough at this stage considering he is still a maiden in a field with more exposed winners.
Selections: 7, 9, 15, 14.
Race 7 - 3:40PM Swan Draught Handicap Tips (1200m)
There’s a stack of chances in the opening leg of the quaddie, which includes the resuming 4. Wubin Gold, who was an each-way price off what was a decent Belmont trial on November 10.
The daughter of Shooting To Win has built a tidy record with six wins and two seconds from 15 appearances, and she can produce a big finish when conditions allow, which included a track-and-trip win here last spring.
She also recorded a pair of winter wins last campaign and her overall strike rate at the trip is solid, although gate one is a slight query given her get-back pattern, but with any luck in transit she has the ability to give this a shake.
6. Kay Tee Why was a touch plain last start and remains a query at 1200m given all his prior form was at 1000m, although William Pike regains the ride and a colder steer from wider out may be suitable.
12. September Born is hard to assess after winning at stakes level last spring and just missing fresh before disappointing in the Group 3 Asian Beau, while 13. Castle Road strips fitter third-up and can give a sight if conditions favour on-speed runners.
Selections: 4, 6, 12, 13.
Race 8 - 4:20PM Ascend Trophies - Jungle Dawn Classic Tips (1400m)
1. Bonjoy looks the obvious here, and while she has to carry 58.5kg, the six-year-old looks very well placed back to mares’ company now fourth-up from a spell.
She looked to be on a Railway Stakes path with good performances in some of those key lead-up races, and in the latest via the RJ Peters she was in traffic and in restricted room for much of the straight when never fully tested.
The daughter of Maschino was respected in the market for that Group 3 and owning a very good overall strike rate, this shapes as a very winnable Listed race for her.
8. Secret Attraction was a beaten favourite in the Northern Cup last start, which has been a decent form race having produced subsequent winner Captain Pluto, and she wasn’t suited in what became a muddlingly run affair, while her prior runner-up finish in the Listed Hannan’s Handicap is an okay reference.
10. Dun With The Blues is a massive price but has won her last two first-up attempts and trialled fairly on November 17, while 15. Yorga Pride isn’t a world beater but is very honest and should appreciate getting back to 1400m.
Selections: 1, 8, 10, 15.
Race 9 - 5:00PM MCA Polytrack - Winterbottom Stakes Tips (1200m)
2. Jokers Grin brings an outstanding record into the Winterbottom, with his only unplaced run coming on debut last year and the brilliant Quokka triumph in April confirming he can match motors with some of Australia’s elite short-course sprinters.
That Quokka win looked the full penny-drop moment for the five-year-old, who had thrown away the Roma Cup prior, and after doing enough to salute first-up over 1000m he produced a high-rating performance last time out in the Group 2 Colonel Reeves Stakes.
He came from rearward and wide on that occasion and was strongest through the line, suggesting he couldn’t be going any better with this Group 1 firmly locked in as the grand target.
10. Benedetta is a double-figure quote but has a platform to lift third-up after a fair Champions Sprint run when condition gave out late on testing ground, and she holds favourable head-to-head records against Oscar’s Fortune, Overpass and Rey Magnerio, while her last three third-up attempts have yielded two wins and two placings including a Group 1 second when splitting Schwarz and Jimmysstar.
5. Rope Them In returns to 1200m third-up after a track-and-trip win before chasing Watch Me Rock in the Asian Beau, a result boosted when the winner claimed the Railway Stakes, while 1. Overpass remains a major threat from barrier three with a superb Ascot record of four wins from five starts and the chance to create history as the first horse to win three Winterbottoms.
Selections: 2, 10, 5, 1.
Race 10 - 5:42PM Mrs Mac's Handicap Tips (1200m)
First emergency 17. Hez Got The Safe has gained a start, and it’s no surprise the four-year-old is in the market given the big galloper from the Graeme Ballantyne yard worked nicely in a Lark Hill trial on November 17.
While he has only the one win from eight starts, he also has six placings and it didn’t feel as though the penny dropped through his first few campaigns, and he did have strong form lines early last spring including a win over Pond Master and a placing behind a handy Storyville.
Going straight to 1200m suits and he is among the chances in an even opener.
13. Maalis Song has landed the cash for us in both runs this time in, including a Belmont maiden breakthrough on October 29, and he handled the rise to Class 3 company last start when beating Nineball, who is no slouch, and this galloper is still learning but trending the right way.
4. Doctor Jay is another one to keep under notice fresh, and he has a big finish when conditions allow, and he beat Essentric Nature on August 30, with that runner going on to win his next three, while 8. Lady Boss heads the market as an ex–Ciaron Maher-trained sprinter who was good on WA debut.
Selections: 17, 13, 4, 8.
