Long regarded as one of Australia’s premier stallion-making races, this year’s edition shapes as another high-quality contest, with several stakes-winning colts among the final field.

2025 Caulfield Guineas Tips

2025 Caulfield Guineas Best Bet - Autumn Boy

With back-to-back triumphs as a late two-year-old and a strong chasing second when runner-up via his September 13 return, Autumn Boy was clearly the top seed for the Caulfield Guineas before the Golden Rose.

While he looked a touch disappointing there, it came in a race where they smashed the track record time for the Rosehill 1400m, and he was forced to get back in a field dominated up front.

Staying at seven furlongs worked against him, and the step to a mile third-up looks ideal for the colt. His racing pattern suggests he’ll be stronger over further, and he draws perfectly to use early tactical speed from gate one.

With a solid platform and progression through two fast-run races this campaign, he looks well placed to rebound and stamp himself as one of the leading three-year-olds of the spring.
2025 Caulfield Guineas Next Best Bet - Observer

Observer looked a horse to follow from his first campaign, kicking off with a solid debut before bolting in at Sandown. He then lost at Flemington when rolled as an odds-on favourite, though that run had the look of an end-of-prep effort, and that form has since held up strongly, with the winner proving dominant at stakes level.

He covered ground via a brave September 24 resumption when runner-up, showing he’d come back in good order, and there’s clear upside now stepping to 1600m.

That first-up run should bring him right on, and his pattern suggests he’ll be suited by a genuine tempo here. He looks open to further improvement and has the right grounding to feature prominently.

With natural progression and added fitness, Observer shapes as a major player second-up in the Guineas.
2025 Caulfield Guineas Value Bet - Planet Red

Planet Red was beaten last time out when third in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude but still produced a fair performance, making inroads late in a slowly run race. He’s likely to be far better suited if they roll along at a more genuine tempo here.

His breeding suggests he’ll relish getting to the mile, and he’s always shown talent, winning his first two starts before being tested against stronger company this campaign.

There was merit to his second-up run at The Valley where staying at 1200m may have worked against him, and he’s progressed steadily since.

With a stronger tempo and further fitness on his side, Planet Red looks capable of improving again and appeals as the value option in this year’s Guineas.
