2025 Formula 1 Bahrain GP Tips - Piastri the faster Papaya

In the 2025 Bahrain GP, Max Verstappen faces tough competition from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. While Verstappen clinched the Japanese GP, Bahrain's track suits McLaren's MCL60 better. With fewer bends and a demanding surface needing harder tyres, strategy and tyre management become pivotal. Both Piastri and Norris strive to secure front-row positions, with Piastri showing significant improvement. If McLaren manages team strategies well, a double-podium is within reach. The Bahrain track's medium-downforce setup enhances overtaking, promising an exciting race.

2025 Formula 1 Bahrain GP Preview & Tips

Max Verstappen proved why he is a 4-time World Champion, pushing his Red Bull to the limits to take pole and win the Japanese Grand Prix, however, he will not be able to repeat the performance with the McLarens predicted to dominate in Bahrain.

Suzuka lacked the excitement with a very uneventful race which planned into the hands of Christian Horner and Max Verstappen who controlled the grand prix and let McLaren make some tactical mistakes that handed the win the the reigning champion.

In Sakhir it won’t be that easy with the MCL60 expected to perform at its peak on a circuit that will challenge the machines more in slower corners and with the teams running less downforce than the high-speed circuit in Japan last weekend.

Despite their being fewer bends that put pressure on tyre degradation the quality of the surface makes up for it, with the rough road causing teams to run on the hardest tyres from Pirelli.

With three DRS zones raw pace of the car will also be important and finding the right ‘medium- downforce setting will be the key to success. Expect more overtaking in Bahrain than in Suzuka and a less surprising result.

2025 Formula 1 Bahrain GP Qualifying Best Bet

Max Verstappen took pole in Suzuka with a flawless lap and has the pedigree in Sakhir with the fastest qualifying lap in his last two visits to Bahrain.

Both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris made slight mistakes on their flying laps in Japan and it cost them both pole and possibly another race win. The margin of error for the McLarens in Bahrain should be wider though and even if they do not put nail their lap, one of the Papaya will be the fastest qualifier if not both sitting on the front row.

Piastri’s mistake was larger in the first sector in Japan and he will make up for that in Bahrain by putting his MCL60 closest to the start line come race day.

2025 Formula 1 Bahrain GP Best Bet

All the pressure is on Lando Norris to be quickest of the McLarens and the Brit hasn’t been. Zak Brown should have made the call to let the Aussie through and chase down Verstappen with the No.81 car clearly quicker in the dying stages of the grand prix last weekend.

Piastri has more raw pace and has now learnt to manage his tyres better than he did in the 2024 season. Bahrain will be a test, but the 24-year-old will show his maturity and be the stronger of the McLarens once again on a circuit where tyre management will determine the race.

If the McLaren team bosses can sort out their strategy and not let the driver’s get in each other’s way then they should pull away and complete another double-podium in Bahrain.
