Mexico vs South Korea World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
A spot in the knockout phase is up for grabs as Mexico and South Korea look to back up their opening Group A victories when they collide at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara on Thursday night.
Both teams were impressive in launching their respective World Cup campaigns last week and the chance to secure a top two spot and automatic progression to the Round of 32 is on the line for the winner of this encounter.
Mexico eased past South Africa 2-0 and easily could have scored more, while South Korea orchestrated a brilliant comeback to topple Czechia 2-1 in a match they dominated more than the scoreline suggests.
These two nations played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in a friendly last year and it's tough to separate the teams again - which makes South Korea as the underdog in the Double Chance market appealing.
The Taegeuk Warriors have won six of their last eight games and I think they can avoid defeat against the co-hosts here. Veteran striker Son Heung-min came close on a few occasions against Czechia and tallied a whopping six shots overall - he's good value at even money to have half of that total with Picklebet, who continue to offer the best odds of all Australian bookmakers for shots props.
Mexico vs South Korea Stats & Trends
- South Korea have won six of their last eight games
- Mexico are unbeaten in their last nine games
- The most-recent meeting in September 2025 was a 2-2 draw
- Mexico gone winless in eight of their last 11 home games against current World Cup teams, drawing six of those fixtures
- Son Heung-min registered six shots vs Czechia & has 56 goals for South Korea
Mexico vs South Korea Head To Head
Mexico have won three of the last four meetings, including at the 2018 World Cup, but the most-recent friendly in 2025 resulted in a 2-2 draw.
Mexico Form Analysis
Mexico eased past a poor South Africa side 2-0 to launch the World Cup last week in the capital, with winger Julian Quinones scoring early before veteran striker Raul Jimenez doubled the advantage in the second half.
It was a dominant performance from El Tri, out-shooting their opponents 16-4 and they really should have scored more.
Quinones was lively throughout the game, totalling five shots, with his pace down the flank causing problems for the South African defence.
Mexico Team News
Quinones was limping late into the game however and asked to be substituted, but it might have been precautionary after a standout performance.
Cesar Montes will miss this game after the central defender was sent off late against South Africa.

South Korea Form Analysis
It was an impressive performance from South Korea after they recovered from a goal down to come away with a 2-1 triumph over Czechia.
South Korea were the better team, but went behind courtesy of a set-piece header. Feyenoord's Hwang In-Beom slotted home the equaliser before assisting Oh Hyeon-Gyu's winner, securing just an eighth World Cup win for the country.
Hong Myung-Bo's side have now won six of their last eight games and get to remain in Guadalajara for this contest.
South Korea Team News
Son Heung-min was highly involved with six shots and will lead the line again.
Kim Tae-hyeon is in some doubt after picking up a knock.

Verdict
South Korea can pick up at least a point here, with value on the draw. Son came close to a goal on more than one occasion vs Czechia and should be highly involved again here.
