Canada take on Qatar in their Group B World Cup clash at BC Place, Vancouver, seeking their first ever World Cup win at home. Both sides enter after opening 1-1 draws—Canada showing resilience against Bosnia, while Qatar were fortunate to snatch a point from Switzerland. With Canada’s strong defensive record—unbeaten in 8 and Under 2.5 goals in 10 of 11—the prediction favors Canada for a low-scoring victory. Star striker Jonathan David is tipped to play a key role. Canada vs Qatar World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's a great opportunity for Canada to make history on home soil and secure a maiden World Cup win when they host Qatar at BC Place in Vancouver on Thursday.

After both nations picked up their first ever World Cup point in their respective Group B openers, Canada and Qatar will now attempt to collect their first win at football's showpiece event.

Honestly, Canada couldn't hope for better opponents. Don't let Qatar's 1-1 draw with Switzerland fool you, they are - along with South Africa - one of the worst teams at this World Cup and I don't think they will cause the co-hosts much trouble here.

Qatar were played off the park by Switzerland, but somehow picked up a point courtesy of a 95th minute own goal. They conceded 26 shots and an xG of 3.22, so they were thoroughly outclassed. Canada weren't great, but they showcased good fight and resilience to equalise for a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and should be better for the run here.

Canada games always trend Under 2.5 goals, so I'm backing the Canucks for a low-scoring win to nil. This also looks like a game Juventus striker Jonathan David should dominate.
  • Canada are unbeaten in their last eight games
  • Canada have seen Under 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 11 games
  • Qatar have seen Under 2.5 goals in five of their last six games
  • Canada have won their last four games in Vancouver by a combined 17-2 score
  • Qatar have failed to score in three of their last four games, with their lone strike an own goal
  • Jonathan David had three shots vs Bosnia & also had 3 & 5 shots in warm-up games vs Ireland & Iceland
  • David has scored nine goals in his last 21 appearances for Canada

Canada vs Qatar Head To Head

Just the one previous meeting between the nations, with Canada prevailing 2-0 in a 2022 friendly.

Canada Form Analysis

It was a nervous and cagey start from Canada, but they grew into the game against Bosnia and came away with a deserved point.

After conceding a first half goal from a set piece, Canada gradually worked their way back into the contest and were rewarded for their pressure when substitute Cyle Larin equalised with 12 minutes remaining.

Canada had 13 shots, nine corners and dominated possession and we can expect similar numbers against Qatar on Thursday night.

Canada Team News

It remains to be seen if Canada's greatest ever export Alphonso Davies will be fit for this game after battling a hamstring injury.

Promise David and Larin were both lively when they came off the bench last week, but probably won't be promoted to the starting side.

Qatar Form Analysis

Unsurprisingly, Qatar were dominated from start to finish in their opening group game against Switzerland.

However, in a huge shock, Qatar managed to come away with a valuable point, with Switzerland failing to capitalise on their 26 shots and leaking an own goal in the dying stages.

Julen Lopetegui’s were under pressure the entire match and have now gone seven games without a win, including failure to beat the likes of El Salvador, Palestine, Zimbabwe and Syria.

Qatar Team News

Mahmoud Abunada was immense in goals with nine saves against Switzerland and will no doubt be busy again.

Akram Afif remains Qatar's biggest weapon up front and will be looking for his first World Cup goal.

Verdict

Canada are tipped for all three points in a game that produces Under 2.5 goals. David will be lively up front for the Canucks.
