Geelong's eight-race program on Friday, June 19, features a competitive mix of up-and-coming sprinters, seasoned wet-track performers, and value longshots. Notable recommendations include Somersault (Race 1) to kick off the meeting, Queensbury (Race 5) as a strong value play, Ballon D’Or (Race 7) as a roughie with form on heavy tracks, and Prestar (Race 8) as the best bet of the day. Geelong Tips June 19

Geelong Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 8 Somersault

The trainer and jockey combination of Grahame Begg and Jordan Childs has always been a formidable one, and the pair have combined for 32 winners this season.

They team up with the resuming Somersault, who was competitive throughout her first campaign earlier in the season.

That preparation included a runner-up finish at Geelong third-up after being narrowly beaten at Kyneton at her second start.

The Kyneton race was won by Zoulette, who franked the form with another victory at her next appearance.

While untried on rain-affected ground, both jumpouts on testing tracks leading into this return have been terrific, including a June 9 Cranbourne heat win over 800m in what was strong time for a maiden-grade galloper that morning.

Geelong Value Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Queensbury

Queensbury appears to be building towards a peak performance.

The four-year-old was backed in both May appearances, the latest resulting in a runner-up finish at Pakenham on May 29 when unsuited by a slowly run race.

There were also excuses for his Geelong return earlier in the month, where he covered ground carrying 61kg.

Considering the run he endured, the son of Deep Field wasn't disgraced, while his lone victory last preparation came third-up via a comfortable all-the-way win before progressing to metropolitan level.

He's still chasing a breakthrough on rain-affected ground, but has finished runner-up in both Heavy-track attempts.

Geelong Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 Ballon D'Or

There looks an opportunity for Ballon D'Or to push forward and potentially take up the running in the penultimate.

The six-year-old has a solid fitness platform with three runs completed this preparation.

Her latest effort came in what was arguably a stronger Benchmark 62 at Bendigo, where she raced in the inferior part of the track.

She also had excuses prior to that and arguably should have finished closer on May 13, which followed a big-priced third-place finish first-up.

While she was unable to fully deliver on her early promise, Ballon D'Or was stakes placed as a three-year-old, won on a Heavy 10 track during that same campaign and gets the benefit of a 3kg claim.

Geelong Best Bet - Race 8 No. 3 Prestar

We were with Prestar when he resumed at Caulfield Heath on May 29, following some sharp trial and jumpout work.

The son of Zoustar was very unlucky not to salute, covering ground throughout before being narrowly picked off late under 61kg.

That form received a boost when Afterberna won at Sandown last Saturday.

Prestar showed ability in better company as a two-year-old and early three-year-old, although he tapered off late in his previous campaign and was subsequently gelded.

He arrives here unbeaten from two starts on Heavy ground and, while also accepted for Flemington on Saturday, this is the much softer option at 0-66 level.
