Dalby Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 8 Jolly Japes

Good placed form on wet tracks is a positive for Jolly Japes, with all four career starts having come on Soft ground.

Two of those efforts have resulted in top-three finishes, including a runner-up performance at the Sunshine Coast last start.

Racing over 1200m, the filly was beaten just under two lengths after leading from barrier six.

While that form is yet to be fully tested, the only runner to emerge from the race has since placed second on the synthetic track at the Sunshine Coast.

Frontrunning tactics appear to have suited in her last two starts and, with the rise in distance likely to suit, she looks capable of overcoming barrier eight to break through.

Dalby Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Yukanuma

Yukanuma has been in good form of late, recording top-three finishes in all three starts since finishing fourth at the Gold Coast in April.

A narrow victory in a 2200m Benchmark 66 handicap at Grafton followed that effort.

Racing on a Good 3 surface, the gelding proved too strong for his rivals in a race that has since produced a subsequent winner.

His next two appearances both resulted in third-place finishes, including a solid effort on wet ground at Grafton last time out.

While beaten three lengths at Benchmark 74 level on that occasion, the drop in grade is a positive and the son of Real Impact looks capable of returning to winning form.

Dalby Favourite - Race 5 No. 2 Zanjeer

The latest effort is best forgiven after Zanjeer faded to finish last of 13 runners in a 1200m Class 1 at Toowoomba last month.

The four-year-old was beaten a long margin after starting at $21.

His previous run at Gatton reads much better, where he finished sixth in a Benchmark 0-58 contest.

Racing on a Good 4 surface, the gelding was beaten just over one-and-a-half lengths despite encountering tack issues.

The switch to a wet track is no concern, while a recent trial second at Toowoomba suggests he is ready to return to form.

Dalby Value Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Risk For Reward

Risk For Reward has finished seventh in both starts this preparation, but there has been merit in each performance.

Both runs have come on rain-affected tracks, with the gelding appearing comfortable on a Soft 5 surface at Ipswich last time.

He improved significantly there, finishing just over two-and-a-half lengths from the winner after being beaten more than six lengths at the Gold Coast first-up.

That latest effort came in a Benchmark 0-58 event and the drop in grade looks favourable.

The son of All Too Hard has drawn well, handles firmer ground if conditions improve and appeals as a value chance after a freshen-up.
