Australia's T20 side showed a new edge by outspinning Bangladesh in Game 1, taking a record nine wickets with spin and winning by four wickets, thanks to Cooper Connolly's explosive 47 and solid support from debutants Joel Davies and Aiden Chaudhary. Bangladesh struggled in the middle overs, exposing their vulnerability without Litton Das. Expert prediction tips include Bangladesh as value outright winners, Connolly to top-score, and Renshaw as a bowling outsider, emphasizing shifting momentum but ongoing local value in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh vs Australia, 2nd T20I 2026 - Expert Prediction

Australia have found something. After a tour that produced series losses in both ODI legs, the T20 squad has a completely different energy and Game 1 showed exactly why.

Nine wickets to spin in a T20I innings is something Australia have never done before in white-ball cricket. Zampa took 3-18, debutant Joel Davies took 3-17, and Bangladesh were bowled out for 131 despite a 52-run powerplay. The surface in Chattogram has been slow and spin-friendly throughout this tour and Australia now have the personnel to exploit it, something the ODI squad simply didn't have to the same degree. Mitchell Marsh is back, the T20 specialists are in, and the XI looks far more suited to these conditions than anything Australia put out in the ODI series.

Cooper Connolly is the standout performer of this entire tour. His 47 off 27 balls in the chase anchored Australia's win after they lost Inglis for 5 and Marsh for 13 inside five overs. Connolly hit four fours and three sixes and looked completely in control until he went for one big shot too many chasing his fifty. He is batting with the freedom and confidence of a player who knows he belongs at this level. Back him again.

Bangladesh will make adjustments after being outspun at home which is an embarrassing result for a side on their own surfaces. They will look to be more disciplined in the middle overs where Zampa and Davies picked up the bulk of their wickets, and stand-in captain Hridoy will know they need their batters to build through overs 7-15 rather than looking for boundaries. Litton Das remains an uncertain starter which weakens their top order further.

The Renshaw roughie at $21 for best bowler deserves a small play. He took 2-26 in Game 1 with his off-spin and the conditions are clearly suiting every Australian spinner on the park. On a surface where nine spin wickets fell in the first match, the part-timers are live chances again and Renshaw's odds reflect how overlooked he is as a bowling option right now.

Take Bangladesh to win outright, the value is real given Australia's tour form coming in, but Game 1 showed this is a different squad in a different format and the conditions suit them. Connolly over his runs line is the key player bet, and Renshaw best bowler at $21 is the roughie worth a small stake.

  • Australia's spinners took nine T20I wickets in Game 1, a feat never previously achieved by an Australian side in white-ball cricket
  • Cooper Connolly made 47 off 27 balls in the chase after Australia were 38-2, hitting four fours and three sixes and has now scored 35 and 47 in his two most recent games.
  • Bangladesh's stand-in captain Hridoy acknowledged his side lost the plot between overs 7-15 in Game 1 and face the same spin attack again without Litton Das likely available to stabilise the top order.
  • Matt Renshaw took 2-26 from his off-spin in Game 1 and has now taken wickets in multiple formats on this tour.

Head to Head

Australia lead the T20I series 1-0 after their four-wicket win in Game 1 in Chattogram. Overall Australia lead the all-time T20I record against Bangladesh 7-4. Bangladesh won the ODI series 2-1 but this is a different Australian squad and a different format, the T20 side has significantly more spin depth and the Chattogram conditions have played into their hands immediately.

Bangladesh Form Analysis

Bangladesh were outplayed in Game 1 despite a strong powerplay of 52-2 from six overs. Once Zampa and Davies entered the attack the innings fell apart with 75-5 by the 11th over, eventually bowled out for 131 in 19 overs. Mahedi Hasan's unbeaten 29 was the top score which tells its own story about how comprehensively Australia's spinners dismantled the middle order.

In the chase Bangladesh made early inroads with Shoriful removing Inglis and Mustafizur getting Marsh, but they couldn't sustain the pressure as Connolly took the game away from them. Litton Das remains a fitness doubt after retiring hurt in the third ODI, which leaves Hridoy in charge again and their top order short of a recognised anchor.

Australia Form Analysis

Game 1 was the best performance of the tour by some distance. Davies announced himself with 3-17 on debut and Zampa reached 150 T20I wickets in the same match. Connolly's 47 off 27 was the headline batting effort, but the depth showed too with Chaudhary making 18 off 13 on debut and Davies and Bartlett seeing Australia home.

Marsh was removed early for 13 and Inglis went for 5 but it didn't matter, the batting depth held up and the bowling was dominant. The squad has genuine momentum heading into Game 2 and the combination of four spin options on a slow Chattogram surface remains Australia's biggest weapon.

Verdict

Take Bangladesh to win outright, the value is real given Australia's tour form coming in, but Game 1 showed this is a different squad in a different format and the conditions suit them. Connolly over his runs line is the key player bet, and Renshaw best bowler at $21 is the roughie worth a small stake.
