Jai Opetaia vs Claudio Squeo Tips

Jai Opetaia is backed to retain his IBF and Ring Magazine titles by knockout in rounds 4-6.

Optetaia is the better boxer, has a big reach advantage and a massive edge when it comes to punching power, and that is likely to overwhelm Claudio Squeo.

  • Jai Opetaia has a perfect 27-0 professional record
  • 21 of Jai Opetaia’s 27 victories have come via knockout
  • 4 of Jai Opetaia’s last 6 stoppage wins have come in rounds 4-6

Jai Opetaia Form

Jai Opetaia is the defending IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight champion with an unbeaten professional record of 27-0, with 21 wins coming by knockout.

Opetaia made his pro debut in 2015 and won a string of regional titles over the next few years as he fought almost exclusively in his home country.

The 29-year-old Australia fought his way into world title contention in July 2022, and he took his first shot at the big-time, beating Mairis Briedis on points to claim the IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight titles.

He successfully defended those crowns the following year, knocking out Jordan Thompson in the fourth round, only to vacate the IBF title before his next fight.

Opetaia maintained his unbeaten record though, stopping Ellis Zorro in the first, and in his next outing he regained the IBF belt by beating Briedis on points once again.

The Aussie cruiserweight has made two successful defences of his titles this that night.

He ended 2024 with a sixth-round stoppage of Jack Massey, and then began his 2025 campaign with a fourth-round knockout of David Nyika in January.

Claudio Squeo Form

Claudio Squeo is an Italian cruiserweight who boasts an unbeaten professional record of 17-0, with nine victories coming via stoppage.

Squeo, known as ‘The Red Bull’ has fought exclusively in his native Italy during his career so far.

He has held a couple of regional titles during that time, and in April of last year he recorded the biggest victory of his career so far.

The 34-year-old Italian was dropped in the second round of his fight with Niklas Rasanen, but recovered to claim the IBF European title on points.

Squeo backed that up in October as he stopped Orlando de Jesus Estrada in the second round to earn this shot at the IBF and Ring Magazine titles.

Verdict

Claudio Squeo may be unbeaten, but he has never fought anyone of Jai Opetaia’s calibre.

Opetaia is younger, bigger and more talented, so we fully expect him to take out Squeo inside a couple of rounds.
