Where the West Coast Eagles finish in 2025: 16

2024 was a rebuilding year for the Eagles and fans need to be aware early that it is still the case in 2025.

That is not saying that you shouldn’t expect improvement, but there is a clear jump on the ladder from the 16th place where West Coast finished last season and the 15th-placed Adelaide Crows.

The Eagles put in some real good performances last season and the Harley Reid spectacle gives fans some real hope for the future, but it was evident in his decision making that he is going to take some time to develop.

Projected Win total: 7

West Coast will close the gap on those above them in 2025 and will get a couple more wins than they did last season. This will be due to their improvement and also to the degradation of their opponents.

The computer models were giving West Coast a projected win total of 5 again, however, we stole some wins from Richmond and North Melbourne, who are likely to struggle once again.

Best Contender for Brownlow Medal: Harley Reid

The 2024 No. 1 draft pick didn’t disappoint and from memory his performance verse the Demons last season was electric, giving the perfect example of what typ of generational talent he is.

For Reid, his skills and strength are already in the top echelon of the AFL, but his mental game still needs some work. Reid was suspended last season for a brain explosion and it was evident at times that he became frustrated and caused some poor decision making.

Reid is the future of West Coast and the AFL and a hard learning curve in your first year in the big time is a positive. Expect Reid to be in the mix and claiming as many top points that are on offer for West Coast.

What’s to like

West Coast had a great offseason and got stronger with the additions of Liam Baker, Matt Owies, and Jack Graham (via free agency). It cost them the No. 3 pick in the draft, but they received proven talent, not to mention the best W.A product in the draft as well in Bo Allan.

Many would have appreciated a slower build for the Eagles, but they know the talent they have and they are going to have a real crack at getting back into finals contention, maybe not this season, but it is likely to be around the corner.

What’s NOT to like

West Coast are going about things the right way (in my opinion), but it can also go bust by splashing into the market like they did in the offseason at the expense of an early draft pick.

The big question will be, did they spend their money wisely. Leaking 101 points per game last season, have West Coast done enough to improve their backline by the addition of Liam Baker. The eagles might spend a little more time inside their opponents fifty in 2025, but they are still going to have trouble giving them out of their own.
