Where the GWS Giants finish in 2025: 5
Greater Western Sydney lost a plethora of players in the offseason and their depth and development will be tested in 2025 which is why they are predicted to fall out of the top four, albeit just on spot to fifth.
There are going to be some good opportunities for the younger generation of Giants like Conor Stone and Xavier O'Halloran to take their place in the permanent roster, which can be a positive. Once injuries begin to roll around, the GWS are going to rely on some of these younger talents to step up and be role players.
Projected Win total: 14
Fifteen wins in 2024 will become 14 wins in 2024. The addition of former Essendon forward Jake Stringer will give GWS and even more powerful tall that can add plenty more goals and Toby Bedford will now likely come off the bench and add punch to the midfield.
Despite the departures, you cannot rule GWS out and they will be a force that can beat any team in the comp. There season will depend on their medical room and if they stay moderately healthy, they should finish the year in a good spot to have a solid finals campaign.
Best Contender for Brownlow Medal: Tom Green
Tom Green is entrenched in Western Sydney and has inked himself at the club until the end of 2027.
The 23-year-old will now play his fifth season in the AFL and is becoming one of the premium midfielders in the league. His ability to go hard at the contest and play the ball out with composure is his biggest strength.
Averaging 30+ disposals per game over the past 2 seasons, you will not miss Green’s name on the voting list in most GWS matches.
What’s to like
Jake Stringer was a big addition in the offseason making GWS spoilt for choice for talls this season.
Kieren Briggs will play in the ruck and will now get some relief from Jake Riccardi who will pop in and out of the forward line and at the breakdowns now that Stringer is up front with Aaron Cadman.
The speed and suffocating midfield of GWS will give great service to their forward line and their transition game will unlock things inside 50.
What’s NOT to like
Depth can be an issue for GWS this season who are going to need to overcome the departure of Harry Perryman, Isaac Cumming, James Peatling and Nick Haynes.
Sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise, with young talent being thrusted into the limelight, however, it is always a concern when you are talking about depth already at the start of the year.
