Where the Sydney Swans finish in 2025: 1
The poor ol’ Swannies simply couldn’t finish the job, losing their second grand final in three years, well not losing, getting absolutely demolished, again.
In 2025, Sydney are likely to get another chance as they try and find the winning method from 2012 after losing their past 4 grand final appearances. Former assistant coach Dean Cox will take over as the head honcho after the departure of John Longmire aiming to secure the Swans first premiership in 13 years.
Not much else has changed in the harbour city, besides the departure of Luke Parker with the Swans staying quiet in the offseason.
Projected Win total: 16
‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, is what Sydney have stood by this offseason and with that they come into the 2025 season with a roster that in a lot of people’s eyes, should have won the premiership.
We all saw the class of the Swans throughout last season and we can expect much of the same in 2025, even with Cox taking over the reins. Some minor adjustments will benefit the Swans and their win total should look about the same as it did last season, however, with some improvements expected in the top 8, Sydney are expected to take one less victory and finish with 16 wins.
Best Contender for Brownlow Medal: Chad Warner
Chad Warner was inspirational for the Swans last season, having a career-best year with 35 goals and an average of 23.5 disposals per game.
Warner is rumoured to be on the move next year back to Western Australia and will be out to drive up his stakes in his likely final season for the Swans. The more Warner has his hands on the ball the better and you can expect to see his name all over the Brownlow voting if the Swans are to keep their momentum rolling from last season.
What’s to like
Nothing has changed in Sydney which is a huge positive with this group dominating for the majority of the 2024 season.
Their midfield is the best in the AFL with Errol Gulden, Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner controlling the game, linking their backline to the midfield and giving phenomenal service to their forwards.
What’s NOT to like
There really isn’t much not to like about Sydney besides the obvious at the moment and that is their failure to win the big one in the past 13 years.
