Where the Port Adelaide Power finish in 2025: 3
Port Adelaide were as good as any team in 2024… when they kicked straight.
Port were their worst enemy and their inability to hit the target was often to their detriment and cost them a few victories throughout the year and during the finals. The work of the backline and midfield went unrewarded, ranking last in the AFL with a 42.8% goal accuracy constantly wasting opportunities after being ranked 6th in the league in inside 50’s and second in shots per inside 50.
Despite not really making any personnel moves to rectify this issue, Port can’t possibly kick that bad in 2025. A solid top-four spot is again on the cards for Port.
Projected Win total: 15
The Power finished last season with 16 wins and are projected in 2025 to finish with 15.
Improvements in their ability to kick goals is expected, however, the draw for Port Adelaide is not a kind one and compared to the schedule they had in 2024, it is considerably harder. Playing more top eight teams is going to make things more difficult for Port, however, they have finished in the top four in 4 of their last 5 season and that has to be respected in the calculations.
Best Contender for Brownlow Medal: Zak Butters
Zak Butter’s topped the Brownlow voting for Port last season tallying 29 total votes which was good for third place as the league’s most valuable player.
The Port midfielder bloomed the longer the season went on and the 24-year-old is already developing into a true leader at the club. Butters is becoming one of the top players in the league, renowned for his hard on-ball skills and his ability to distribute and dictate the play.
What’s to like
The Power held onto the pieces they needed to in the offseason and made some minor additions. As mentioned, Port were Port’s worst enemy in 2024 and with some fine tuning, especially inside 50, they will once again be a premiership threat.
Jordon Sweet is one year older and their on-ballers Zak Butters and Connor Rozee are going to be influential to the success in Adelaide.
What’s NOT to like
The longer Port go without their second premiership the more pressure builds and it certainly showed in 2024 with heavy losses to Geelong in the Qualifying Final and the Preliminary Final.
The Power need to prove that they can handle the big moments and take on the top sides when it matters…. But first goal kicking, otherwise they may not get there.
