Despite a solid effort from Arnaldi, Zverev's recent form and experience give him the edge. Fans can catch the live match streamed online, with Zverev the favorite to advance.

A former Canada Masters champion all the way back in 2017, Zverev is looking to restore some confidence and get back to some of his best tennis ahead of the US Open, with the German suffering yet more disappointment in the three previous Grand Slams in 2025 - including a most-recent opening round exit at Wimbledon. Zverev linked up with Rafa and Toni Nadal in Mallorca after that loss in a bid to add something different to his mindset and he got his Canada Masters campaign off to a winning start with a tough 7-6 6-4 victory over Adam Walton.
This could prove to be another battle. Arnaldi advanced all the way to the Canada Masters semi-finals in Montreal last year and took a set off Zverev in their only previous meeting. However, the Italian has a 5-15 record against top 10 players and generally gets overpowered against the elite. I think Arnaldi can make a decent fight of this, but Zverev should be better with a match under his belt and come away with the victory.
Head To Head
Zverev leads 1-0, winning their lone encounter 6-7 6-3 6-4 in the opening round of Acapulco earlier this season.
Alexander Zverev Form
Zverev heads into this clash with a 36-14 record on the season, but missing the chance to rise to World No. 1 earlier in the year and falling in another major final at the Australian Open to Jannik Sinner.
The German picked up his lone title at the ATP 500 event in Munich, but has mostly faltered on the big stage, losing to Novak Djokovic in the French Open quarter-finals and going down to Arthur Rinderknech in the opening round of Wimbledon.
After spending some time in Mallorca with Rafa and Toni Nadal, Zverev will be hoping to raise his level for the remainder of the season - starting with right here in Toronto.
It wasn't the best match of all time, but Zverev showcased some good fight to topple Adam Walton 7-6 6-4 in his opening match. Zverev trailed 3-5 in the first set tiebreak, but came back to snatch it, including winning a 52-shot rally at 5-5.
Matteo Arnaldi Form
Arnaldi comes into this contest with a 18-16 record on the season and ranked No. 41 in the world, which is 11 places below his career-high.
It feels like Arnaldi has been ranked between the 30-50 mark forever, but he's still just 24 years of age and will be hoping to take that next step in his career sooner rather than latter.
The Italian's standout result so far in 2025 was making the Madrid Masters quarter-finals, where he took out Novak Djokovic and Frances Tiafoe, while he was also a semi-finalist in Delray Beach.
Arnaldi is defending semi-final points at the Canada Masters and he faces a drop in the rankings if he fails to win this match, where he's obviously the big underdog. Arnaldi survived a three-setter in his opening match against Tristan Schoolkate, prevailing 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Verdict
Arnaldi took a set off Zverev in their only previous meeting and I'm backing him to put up a good fight again here.
However, at the end of the day, Arnaldi lacks the weapons and firepower to consistently beat the very best, so Zverev should be able to grind out another victory.
