De Minaur is back to his best after winning one of the biggest titles of his career at the ATP 500 event in Washington last week, saving three championship points in the final against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Aussie has climbed back into the top 10 at World No. 8 on the back of that triumph, while he also leads the tour for the most hardcourt match wins so far in 2025. Fresh off his 10th career title, de Minaur now turns his attention to the Canada Masters, where he made the final of Toronto back in 2023.
De Minaur has a potentially tricky opening assignment on his hands. Comesana may have a negative 17-22 career record at tour-level, but he's gone 2-1 against top 10 players - including defeating Alexander Zverev earlier this season. Make no mistake, the Argentine is an extremely dangerous player and has immense firepower from all positions on the court - the main thing holding him back is his inability to consistently beat lower-ranked players. I think Comesana - at the very least - can push this match Over 18.5 total games, but a confident de Minaur will likely find a way to grind out another win.
Head To Head
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
Alex de Minaur Form
De Minaur comes into this showdown with a brilliant 35-13 record on the season, rising back to No. 8 in the world following his title win in Washington last week.
The Aussie is now one of just four players along with Carlos Alcaraz, Andrey Rublev and his opponent in that final Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, to have made multiple finals in 2025, with de Minaur also finishing runner-up in Rotterdam to Alcaraz in February.
It's been another highly consistent season for de Minaur, with the 26-year-old also reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals, Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals and the fourth round of Wimbledon.
After saving three championship points to secure his 10th career title in Washington, de Minaur arrives in Toronto hoping for another deep Canada Masters run. He made his first Masters 1000 final in Toronto in 2023, beating Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev before going down to Jannik Sinner.
Francisco Comesana Form
Comesana heads into this clash with a 13-15 record at tour-level for the season, but only 10 spots off his career-high ranking of No. 61.
The Argentine has an extremely high ceiling and if he can ever put it all together, it wouldn't be surprising if he cracked the top 20 and perhaps higher at some point in his career.
However, consistency remains the major issue for Comesana - he can beat players like Alexander Zverev one week and then lose to somebody outside the top 100 the next.
Comesana has been solid lately though, winning four of his last six matches, including reaching the quarter-finals of Gstaad, the second round in Kitzbuhel and winning his debut Canada Masters match over Damir Dzumhur by a 6-3 7-5 score.

Verdict
Comesana has a 2-1 record vs top 10 opponents and has the game to trouble a player like de Minaur if he's firing.
In saying that, de Minaur is back playing some of his best tennis and is just so consistent and tough to beat on these quick hardcourts. The Aussie should win, but Comesana can push it Over 18.5 total games.
