Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne City are set to clash in a pivotal A-League match at CommBank Stadium. Wanderers are struggling at the league's bottom following a heavy derby defeat to Sydney FC, while City, though in a better position, have been inconsistent, narrowly avoiding defeat thanks to a late rally versus Wellington. The game is predicted to likely end in a draw, with both teams prone to defensive lapses. Marcus Younis is a standout for City, poised for another impactful performance.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City Tips & Prediction

It's a crucial game for both teams as Western Sydney Wanderers play host to Melbourne City in A-League Round 16 on Saturday night at CommBank Stadium.

The Wanderers are enduring a nightmare season, anchored to the bottom of the ladder and coming off a thumping 4-1 defeat to bitter rivals Sydney FC in the derby last week. Meanwhile, reigning champions City have struggled to generate any momentum in the A-League this term, clinging onto sixth spot on the table after last week's 2-2 draw with Wellington - a game they were lucky to come away with a point from after recovering from 2-0 down and Patrick Beach saving a penalty in stoppage time.

Hard to have any faith in either of these sides, so the draw - which has landed in the last two encounters - offers some value in the H2H market. Both teams to score is decent value too, with both sides vulnerable at the back lately. Marcus Younis has been a revelation since returning on loan from Brondby for City and will be looking to score in his third straight game.

WS Wanderers vs Melbourne City Head To Head

As mentioned, these sides have drawn their last two encounters, including a 1-1 share of the spoils in Round 1. Kosta Barbarouses opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Max Caputo responded two minutes later.

WS Wanderers Form Analysis

It continues to be a tough season for the Wanderers - they've registered a 4-3-8 record and come into Round 16 rock bottom on the ladder.

Western Sydney appeared as if they were turning a corner, appointing new coach Gary Van Egmond and signing experienced winger Ryan Fraser before beating Perth Glory 1-0.

Fraser scored the winner in stoppage time, with that win backing up another recent triumph over Melbourne Victory.

However, the Wanderers' good work came undone in disastrous fashion last week. Fraser opened the scoring inside 40 seconds in the derby, but that was as good as it got for WS fans as Sydney ran riot for the rest of the contest to condemn the Red & Black to a 4-1 defeat.

Melbourne City Form Analysis

City come into this showdown with a 5-6-5 record for the season, sitting in sixth spot after 15 rounds.

Although they've advanced into the next phase of Champions League action, City have struggled in the A-League, winning just two of their last nine outings.

Aurelio Vidmar's side suffered an embarrassing 6-2 defeat away to Macarthur before salvaging a point across the Tasman against Wellington last week.

Marcus Younis came off the bench to score for the second straight game since returning down under, while Medin Memeti levelled the scores. Patrick Beach then saved a penalty in injury time as City rescued a 2-2 draw.

Vidmar was full of praise for 20-year-old winger Younis after the match.

“He still needs a bit of conditioning, but his 35-40 minutes in that second half (against Wellington) was very good, like he was last week,” Vidmar said.
“He’s big, he’s strong, he’s always looking run in behind, he’s putting defenders under pressure, (and) he gets himself into good scoring positions.“That’s two games, two goals for him, so he’s made a really good impact for us.”
