Canberra Raiders vs Parramatta Eels NRL Tips - Raiders 1-12 = Value, Value, Value

As the Canberra Raiders host Parramatta Eels in NRL Round 20, the Raiders aim to maintain their spot atop the ladder with a stellar run of 12 wins in their last 13 games. Despite the Eels' struggles, having won only two of their last 13 games at GIO Stadium, they remain a tough competitor. The Raiders, with strong players like Matty Timoko, should capitalize on the Eels' lack of their key playmaker, Mitch Moses. Expect a closely scored game favoring the Raiders, who may win by a narrow margin of 1-12 points.

What a season it's turning into for the Green Machine - they've tasted victory in 12 of their last 13 games and bring a seven-game winning streak into this clash, a stretch of success that has propelled them to outright top of the ladder. Now, they face an Eels side languishing in 15th spot, all but out of the finals race and missing their chief playmaker in Mitch Moses. Canberra have won the last two meetings by 50-12 and 41-8 scores. This should be one-way traffic, right?

You'd think so, but the Raiders have been printing us money backing them 1-12 all season and until proven otherwise, I'm going to remain on the bandwagon. Fact: 19 of the Raiders' last 24 wins have been decided by a 1-12 margin. When they've won over the last two seasons, it's been a 1-12 margin 79.1 per cent of the time. I'm well aware this is a game where they could and really should blowout the Eels, but I can't ignore those sustained numbers.

A 3.00pm kick off in sunny conditions at GIO Stadium should lend itself to plenty of attacking footy, so Over 47.5 total points is also backed, while Matty Timoko is due a try and he's been prolific against the Eels in recent times.

  • Raiders have won 12 of their last 13 games & are on a seven-match winning streak
  • Eels have won just two of their last 13 games at GIO Stadium
  • Eels have lost four of their last five games this season
  • Nineteen of the Raiders' last 24 wins have been by a 1-12 margin
  • Three of the Eels' last six defeats have been by a 1-12 margin
  • Over 47.5 points has landed in the last two meetings
  • Over 47.5 points has landed in two of the Eels' last three games
  • Matt Timoko has scored four tries in his last three games vs Eels, including earlier this season

Head To Head

The Raiders have won the last three meetings between the teams, including a 50-12 thumping up in Darwin back in Round 6 this season, with Hudson Young crossing for a double.

Canberra Raiders Form Analysis

You can't argue with the Raiders' position at the top of the ladder (12 wins from 13 is consistent, sustained form) - but I also think you can make a rational and logical argument in stating that it would still be a huge surprise if they went on to win the competition from here.

That's because Canberra repeatedly fail to close out games with authority - and their last three wins are a perfect illustration of this.

The Raiders opened up 13+ leads against lowly sides in the Tigers, Knights and Dragons, but won all of them by just four points (16-12, 22-18 & 28-24 respectively). You just get the feeling that when push comes to shove late into September, the Raiders could be found wanting.

That being said, Canberra are one of the best teams to watch in the competition - Kaeo Weekes is absolutely electric at fullback, the halves pairing of Ethan Strange and Jamal Fogarty provides a fantastic blend of explosiveness and leadership, while the big boppers up front - led by Joseph Tapine and Josh Papalii - are laying the foundation. Hudson Young continues to cement himself as one of the most prolific try-scoring second-rowers in recent times and Ricky Stuart has seen it all as coach. Whatever happens, I'm keen to see what the Raiders come up with in the finals.

Parramatta Eels Form Analysis

It's been another season to forget for the Eels, who come into Round 20 down in 15th spot on the ladder with just five wins from their 16 games.

Mitch Moses has been missing for two large chunks of the season and lets be honest - without their star halfback, Parramatta simply don't have the points in them to consistently compete.

The Eels fought bravely last week and the effort was certainly there, but they faded poorly in the second half against the Panthers and ultimately succumbed 32-10.

Isaiah Iongi was again magnificent at fullback, running the ball 20 times and making numerous try-saving tackles, but the Eels need more spark if they are to make an unlikely late-season charge.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Jason Ryles knows his team need to find points, so he's made the big call to drop departing five-eighth Dylan Brown to 18th man, with Joash Papali'i partnering Dean Hawkins in the halves.

Ryley Smith has been named at hooker as he returns from suspension, while Kitione Kautoga is out with an ankle injury. J'maine Hopgood comes into the starting side and Jordan Samrani joins the pine.

Verdict

It'll be another win for the Raiders and once again, 1-12 offers the value in a game that should see plenty of points.

Matt Timoko has scored at least one try in his last three appearances vs Parra and can snap a six-game drought here.
