Brisbane Lions vs Port Adelaide Power AFL Round 20 Tips - Lions attack can overwhelm depleted Power
Brisbane Lions are set to take on Port Adelaide Power in AFL Round 20, entering the match as strong favourites following six consecutive victories and a dominant recent record over Port Adelaide. The Lions’ potent attack and home ground advantage suggest a likely win by 40 points or more, especially as Port are hampered by injuries to key players. Expect Brisbane to surpass 112.5 points, with forwards like Kai Lohmann and midfield stars such as Will Ashcroft expected to continue their impressive individual streaks.
- Brisbane Lions expected to win by 40+ points vs. Port Adelaide.
- Lions’ offense set to top 112.5 points; Kai Lohmann and Will Ashcroft in top form.
- Port’s injury list and poor recent form make a close result unlikely.
- The game will be played at the Gabba on Sunday, 26th July, with the bounce at 1:10 PM (AEST).

The Lions have won seven of their past eight matches against Port Adelaide by an average margin of 39 points. That run includes victories by 79 and 48 points in 2024 and 2023, while Brisbane has won its past six matches this season by an average margin of more than 41 points.
Our model is more conservative, projecting Brisbane to win by 27.8 points, but recent form and the availability of both teams point towards a wider margin. The Lions have averaged 121.2 points across their past five games, while Port enters the contest without several of its most important players.
Brisbane over 112.5 points also appeals. The Lions are averaging 115 points per game at the Gabba this season and have scored at least 120 points in each of their past three meetings with Port Adelaide. They average more than 58 inside 50s and 32 scoring shots per game, giving their deep forward line every opportunity to clear the team total.
Kai Lohmann is one of the competition’s most in-form forwards, kicking 14 goals across his past four matches and at least two in each of them. Will Ashcroft has been just as influential through the midfield, reaching 30 disposals in five consecutive games as Brisbane’s form has accelerated.

- The Lions have averaged a 39-point winning margin across those seven victories.

Brisbane Lions vs Port Adelaide Power Head-to-Head
Brisbane has dominated this matchup in recent seasons, winning eight of the past 10 meetings with Port Adelaide. The Lions have won the past three encounters by 28, 79 and 48 points, scoring 120 points or more in each of those victories.
Port’s most recent win against Brisbane came in Round 1 of 2023, but the Lions responded later that season with a 48-point qualifying final victory. Brisbane also holds a strong historical advantage at the Gabba, winning 15 of the 21 meetings between the clubs at the venue.
Brisbane Lions Form
Brisbane enters Round 20 sitting fourth with a 12-6 record and second favourites for the Premiership after winning six consecutive matches. The Lions have averaged 121.2 points while conceding only 78.4 across their past five games, producing an average winning margin of 42.8 points.
The reigning premiers were made to work against West Coast last weekend but took control after half-time to win by 24 points. Will Ashcroft and Lachie Neale each collected 32 disposals, while Kai Lohmann continued his outstanding form with four goals.
Brisbane’s midfield depth has been central to its winning run. Ashcroft, Neale, Josh Dunkley and Hugh McCluggage give the Lions a significant advantage around stoppages, while their forward line contains several different scoring threats.
Their ability to generate repeated entries and more than 32 scoring shots per match should place enormous pressure on Port’s undermanned defence.
Port Adelaide Power Form
Port Adelaide sits 15th with a 6-12 record after losing three of its past five matches. The Power have averaged only 74.0 points during that period while conceding 78.2, reflecting a team that has remained competitive defensively but struggled to produce winning scores.
Port led Fremantle by 12 points at half-time last weekend before conceding five goals in the opening 13 minutes of the third quarter. The Power eventually lost by 28 points despite strong performances from Joe Richards, Ollie Wines, Jase Burgoyne and Aliir Aliir.
The task becomes significantly harder against Brisbane due to Port’s lengthy injury list. Zak Butters, Connor Rozee, Joe Richards and several established defenders remain unavailable.

Verdict
Brisbane’s six-game winning streak, dominant recent record against Port Adelaide and powerful home attack make the Lions 40+ winning margin the leading selection. Brisbane should also clear 112.5 points against a depleted opponent, while Kai Lohmann can kick two or more goals for the fifth consecutive match and Will Ashcroft looks well placed to extend his run of 30-disposal performances.
