Wyong Value Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Matete
This son of Dundeel was clearly had some setbacks, as he was off the scene for more than a year following an even debut effort in February 2024.
There wasn't much intent first-up off a long spell, but Matete finished well over 1200m at Gosford (fastest last 800m/600m/400m and 200m of the race).
He did make ground in otherwise on-speed dominated affair, which adds merit to the recent return and the rise in distance is ideal second-up on Thursday.
Central Coast Kids In Need Maiden Tips (Race 5)
Wyong Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 West Head
Although he couldn't land bets as an odds-on fav, West Head still performed fairly in his April 19 return and he was clearly looking for more ground there.
Also, Brad Widdup-trained horses often improve with a run or two under the belt and his stats over the last 12 months reflect that (10% first-up vs 15% second-up and 18% third-up).
West Head showed enough in three stronger events over his first campaign and now out to 1600m in a weak race, the gelding gets another chance second-up.
Baking Association Of Australia F&M BM64 Tips (Race 7)
Wyong Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Pelosa
She was a little tardy away last time, but Pelosa has shown tactical speed in prior starts and without much tempo in this lineup, Andrew Adkins can roll forward.
Adkins was aboard Pelosa via her slick maiden win on April 5 (race rated well for the class and meeting) and the filly is back to the provincials following a metro second.
With a few more favours early, Pelosa arguably wins her third-up attempt at Randwick-Kensington and she stays against her own sex for this 1350m assignment.
Magic Millions CG&E BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Wyong Favourite - Race 8 No. 5 Willie Oppa
This Chris Waller-trained galloper was gelded after heavy defeat on debut at Canterbury and he was given plenty of time following that April 2024 outing.
While he was green in two February appearances, Willie Oppa showed potential in a short second prep and that includes a return showing in a strong maiden.
A well-bred three-year-old, being by Fastnet Rock and out of a half-sister to Hartnell (four-time Group 1 winner), Willie Oppa is well placed fresh in a modest provincial affair.
