Without any hype around a small stable and country rider, along with two big starting prices from his August attempts, the bolter's quote for Clementaro is no surprise, but Michael Trotter is no stranger to producing a big-priced winner.

He is likely to be a big price again at the jump, but looks suited getting to a mile at start three, with both efforts in his first campaign supporting the rise in distance, as does his breeding.

By Gold Standard, whose best progeny is a Group 1-winning miler, Clementaro is also out of a Savabeel mare who was successful over 2100m, giving him every reason to appreciate more ground.

He was a long quote over 1225m at Geelong on debut, where he settled at the back and struggled to get into any real rhythm over the shorter trip, before producing an improved fourth-of-six over 1400m at Seymour on August 27.

There are good references around the Godolphin pair who dominate the market, but there may be a tail to this field, and Clementaro has enough scope for further improvement to have some each-way appeal in the opener.

Seymour Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Biratu

There was more merit to Biratu's debut win than the narrow margin indicates, with the gelding covering ground at Kilmore on February 13 and, despite working early and being entitled to be vulnerable late, sticking on for a good victory.

Connections then opted to test him in metropolitan Benchmark 66 company at start two, where he was still not fully furnished, before a fifth at Bendigo behind smart galloper Pavlich and a fourth-of-eight over 2050m rounded out his first campaign.

He gets back to a similar journey third-up in his second preparation, with improvement to come off two good efforts to open the campaign, including his latest at Seymour when a month between runs and ridden cold from a wide draw before producing the fastest closing sectionals of the race.

His first-up fourth at Bendigo also came in a Benchmark 62 with depth, with winner Puglia going on to salute at metropolitan Benchmark 78 level and runner-up Justify already bringing Saturday city form into that contest.

Biratu is still putting it all together but could be the runner here with the most upside, and from barrier one over the longer trip, with a couple of runs under his belt, a more positive ride can be expected from Harry Coffey.

The lead-up work was solid enough from Yauson, including a Flemington jump-out win in his second winter hit-out, but those trials did indicate that he would likely improve on whatever he produced first-up.

That return was a very encouraging performance from the son of So You Think, who lacked the speed to take up a position from a slightly tricky draw over 1347m before being ridden cold and recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race.

The winner, In'kantosstar, is a progressive type and full brother to Jimmysstar, having bolted in at Ballarat beforehand, while third-placegetter Prevailed also brought decent metropolitan references through Sandown and Caulfield.

Yauson now gets to a mile second-up, which looks ideal, and he showed enough in his first campaign with a tough breakthrough on debut before a competitive fourth-of-seven in metropolitan Benchmark 64 company at Sandown.

His Ballarat effort over 2000m on April 3 before a break can be forgiven, with Yauson wide and working throughout when perhaps ready for the paddock anyway, and under the circumstances, he did well to be beaten under four lengths.
