Randwick-Kensington Tips September 9

Inglis Xtra Bonus Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Randwick-Kensington Value Bet - Race 2 No. 8 Bechers

There was enough merit in Bechers' Newcastle debut to suggest she can take a sizeable step forward at start two after being heavily backed into favouritism.

The Hawkes-trained filly was dragged back from a wide position in a slowly run race and ultimately finished fifth-of-seven, beaten just over two lengths after producing the fastest closing sectionals of the contest.

She rises sharply in distance here, but the way she attacked the line on debut suggests the extra ground will suit, while a much better draw gives Tyler Schiller more options through the early stages.

Schiller has enjoyed a productive association with the Hawkes yard, riding 25 winners for the stable over the past 12 months and already combining for four victories from 14 rides this season.

Bechers should also derive natural improvement from that first race-day experience and, with her pedigree indicating she can prosper over further as she matures, this looks a suitable opportunity in a race lacking an obvious standout.

Racing And Sports Plate Tips (Race 3)

Randwick-Kensington Best Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Low Key

Low Key was thrown straight into Group 3 company on debut in the Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick on April 4 and had genuine excuses for finishing down the field.

The filly covered ground throughout before tiring late and was found post-race with multiple lacerations to the near-hind leg, suggesting she may also have been galloped on during the event.

Connections elected to spell her after that run and she has returned with two encouraging trials, finishing runner-up in an August 14 heat before completing a quiet 1040m Randwick hit-out on August 28.

The Kindergarten form has worked out particularly well, with boom colt The Next Episode winning his next three races, Blue Door stakes-placed in both runs this preparation and fifth-placegetter Bangkok Hottie taking out the Group 2 Furious Stakes at Randwick last Saturday.

Tim Clark retains the ride and, with his strong strike rate for the Waterhouse and Bott stable over the past 12 months, Low Key looks well placed to show her true ability first-up.

Hyland Race Colours Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Randwick-Kensington Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Regal Problem

We were with Regal Problem when she made a winning stable debut at Gosford on August 28, and that performance confirmed the promise shown in two encouraging trials beforehand.

The mare settled off the speed and had to make her run wide in a race otherwise dominated by those closer to the pace, yet still picked up strongly to record the second-fastest final 200m of the entire program.

She showed promise as both a two and three-year-old for previous trainer Lyle Chandler, including consecutive wins during the spring last season, with the second of those coming second-up.

Longer trips appeared to stretch her during her most recent campaign, so keeping her around sprint distances looks the right approach and the slight rise in journey here should be manageable with added fitness.

This fillies and mares contest lacks significant depth and, with Regal Problem carrying 1kg less second-up, she looks capable of making the jump to metropolitan company.

Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Randwick-Kensington Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Siragusa

Two dominant fresh performances earlier in his career give Siragusa plenty of appeal at a bigger price as he returns from a spell.

The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained gelding justified an odds-on quote with an impressive debut victory in January before resuming at Muswellbrook on March 27 and producing another commanding display under 61kg.

That performance earned him a shot at Listed level, although he lost his rider at the barriers, before his following metropolitan Benchmark 72 run came with excuses after he was held up at key stages, while his subsequent Randwick-Kensington failure may simply have signalled the end of the preparation.

Siragusa finished third in an August 18 Warwick Farm trial and was slow away there, but that has not been a recurring issue on race day and his two peak performances have both come fresh over similar trips.

Tom Sherry returns after partnering him to his most recent win and, with only a handful of starts to his name, the son of I Am Invincible has enough upside to work through the lower grades this season.
