Sportsbet Blackbook Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 1 No. 2 Chilly Bro

An improved effort at this track last week gives Chilly Bro some appeal as he steps up in distance on Wednesday.

The New Zealand-bred gelding had been well held in his first three starts this preparation before finishing fifth over 1600m here on a Soft 5 surface.

He was beaten just over five lengths at big odds but kept finding through the straight in a race where the winner cleared out by more than three lengths.

Chilly Bro settled around midfield on that occasion and similar tactics look likely from an inside draw this time around.

Although Didactic and Winston’s Pride finished ahead of him last week, the four-year-old shaped as though the extra ground would suit and he can improve again at a price.

Murray Bridge Best Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Simply Mac

Simply Mac had just one trial ahead of his debut and showed enough there to suggest he would improve with race-day experience.

The gelding finished third over 1000m here after fading late, beaten just over two lengths in a solid first appearance.

He should derive natural improvement from that effort, while the extra 100m looks suitable and barrier seven should allow him to find a comfortable position.

The form has also received a timely boost, with fourth-placegetter Olivia Marie winning a metropolitan maiden recently and the winner subsequently placing in the city.

Simply Mac handled the Soft 5 surface without issue on debut and, with Will Price aboard, he looks capable of breaking through at start two.

Murray Bridge Value Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Charka

A solid first-up effort at Strathalbyn last month suggests Charka can progress further at her second run for the preparation.

The mare raced on a wet track for just the second time and finished third over 1100m after settling behind the leaders, beaten a little over a length.

She drops slightly in distance here, but that is no concern given she broke her maiden over this trip at Hawkesbury in February.

That Strathalbyn run was her first start for Wayne Brown and Stacey Metcalfe retains the ride, while her early speed should help offset the wide barrier.

Charka has performed well from double-figure draws in the past and looks capable of tracking the speed before giving a strong sight at a value price.

Murray Bridge Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Belle From Hell

Belle From Hell has been racing consistently this preparation, including a runner-up finish over this track and trip early last month.

The mare was beaten just over three-and-a-half lengths on Soft ground from a wide draw before backing that up with a solid fourth over the same distance at Strathalbyn.

Both efforts came at Benchmark 0-58 level and she is again likely to be ridden with restraint before looking to build into the race late.

She handles Soft going, although any drying of the track would be another positive given her only previous win came on Good ground.

Garret Lynch’s mare has winning course form and, after being a late scratching when found lame ahead of a race here last week, she looks capable of recording the second win of her career.
