Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 1 Crazy Eights

Matthew Dunn’s gelding Crazy Eights caught the eye on debut when producing a solid effort in metropolitan company last month.

The three-year-old finished runner-up over 1200m at Doomben on a Good 4 surface, beaten just over one-and-a-half lengths after being ridden with restraint.

That effort should have brought him on considerably, while the only runner to emerge from the race so far, the eighth-placegetter, subsequently finished second at the Gold Coast.

Apprentice Jett Newman takes 3kg off and barrier four gives him more options through the early stages this time around.

Crazy Eights found only a more experienced front-running rival too strong on debut and, with that experience behind him, looks capable of going one better.

Ipswich Favourite - Race 4 No. 8 Lebanese

Lebanese makes plenty of appeal at the likely odds after producing three solid placed efforts since resuming with a fifth at Beaudesert in June.

The mare raced on Heavy ground there before handling both Soft and Good conditions well across her next three starts.

She came within half-a-length of recording her second Ipswich victory last time when runner-up at Class 1 level after racing prominently from a wide barrier.

Lebanese led into the straight and found only a stablemate too strong, with the pair finishing clear of the remainder, while barrier seven is a more favourable starting point here.

Emily Lang retains the ride and, with the four-year-old having already shown tactical versatility, Lebanese looks well placed to return to the winner’s list.

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Barrelling

Some strong metropolitan form from last preparation gives Barrelling plenty of appeal as he steps back up in distance second-up.

The gelding won twice over this trip at Doomben before ending that campaign with a fourth on wet ground in March, then resumed over 1200m at Beaudesert last month.

He was beaten more than seven lengths in third there, but the race was dominated by a runaway leader and Barrelling still worked home soundly after being ridden with restraint.

The runner-up has since franked the form with a Gold Coast victory, while the five-year-old should derive plenty of fitness improvement from that first-up run.

Returning to his preferred distance is a major positive and, from an inside draw, Barrelling looks capable of making a winning first appearance at Ipswich.

Ipswich Roughie - Race 6 No. 9 Deep Kharma

A regular visitor to Ipswich, Deep Kharma has made three of her five career starts at this venue and already owns a win here.

That maiden success came over 800m in March on Good ground, while both starts this preparation have come on Soft surfaces.

The latest was a solid effort at Benchmark 0-60 level last month, where she was ridden with restraint before picking up nicely late in the style of a mare looking for more ground.

The form from that race is yet to be properly tested, but Deep Kharma has several positives here with Montana Philpot retaining the ride and barrier six giving her a workable draw.

Dominique Lahiff’s five-year-old should appreciate the return to Good ground and the rise in trip, making her one capable of surprising at a big price.
