Porto are the reigning Portuguese champions and have won all five league games to begin the new season - however, they're not used to facing teams the calibre of Man City and they have a dismal record against English clubs in recent times.

Indeed, Porto have won just two of their last 16 games against English opposition, losing 10 - including a pair of defeats to Nottingham Forest last term in the Europa League.

City are obviously levels above Forest, so home fans in Porto are likely in for a tough night.

Enzo Maresca's side have a perfect 3-0-0 record to open the new Premier League season, with Rayan Cherki already in top form and Erling Haaland looking as dangerous as ever.

The pair have registered seven total goal contributions across their opening three games of the EPL and can translate that form over to the Champions League in this one.

FC Porto Form Analysis

Porto are back in the Champions League after a two-year absence courtesy of their top-place finish in last season's Liga Portugal.

However, it was a disappointing continental campaign, with the Dragons going down to Nottingham Forest in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Francesco Farioli's side have made the perfect start to the league season, winning all five games against Alverca, Rio Ave, Arouca, Viseu and Moreirense.

Porto have scored 11 goals in that period and conceded only once in their most-recent 2-1 home victory over Moreirense.

FC Porto Team News

Jan Bednarek is suspended for Porto after his red card in the second leg of their defeat to Forest last term.

Nehuen Perez and Jakub Kiwior could feature in the centre of defence, but Victor Froholdt is out due to a concussion suffered on the weekend. Vasco Sousa (leg), Oskar Pietuszewski (leg), Gabriel Mec (groin), Zaidu Sanusi (groin) and Samu Aghehowa (ACL) are also all sidelined.

Andre Silva registered six goal involvements in eight games for Porto during his first stint at the club and the veteran striker will be hoping to add to his two league goals this term.

FC Porto Possible Starting XI (4-3-3): Diogo Costa; Alberto Costa, Nehuén Pérez, Jakub Kiwior, Martim Fernandes; Victor Froholdt, Pablo Rosario, Gabri Veiga; William Gomes, André Silva, Pepê

Man City Form Analysis

It was a worrying start to Enzo Maresca's tenure after City were blitzed 3-0 by Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Concerns mounted after City went down 1-0 at home to Bournemouth on the opening day of the Premier League season, but some individual brilliance from Rayan Cherki was the catalyst for a late comeback as the Cityzens prevailed 2-1.

Cherki and Haaland then combined for a dominant 4-1 victory on the road to Crystal Palace before last week's narrow 1-0 home win over newly-promoted Coventry, with Haaland's first-half header proving the difference.

City haven't been too impactful in the Champions League since winning the trophy in 2023, failing to go beyond the quarter-finals in the last three years and suffering a R16 elimination last season.

Man City Team News

Nico O'Reilly was a late omission last weekend against Coventry with a back problem and will miss this game alongside Jeremy Doku, who continues to battle a calf issue.

Enzo Fernandez earned his City debut in place of O'Reilly and will likely feature from the start again for this one. Iliman Ndiaye wasn't too involved in his own City debut and may be relegated to the bench here.

Man City Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Gigi Donnarumma; Matheus Nunes, Rúben Dias, Marc Guéhi, Nico O'Reilly; Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson; Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo; Erling Haaland
