Race 1 - 12:30PM Midway Handicap Tips (1300m)
10. Annie’s Rose looks well placed here, coming back in grade to Midway company after two BM78 attempts to open a 2026 account, where she was luckless when dragged back to the rear and held up at key stages.
She again settled at last at Randwick on February 7 but rattled home once clear to record the fastest closing sectionals of the event, and that closing profile reads strongly for this set-up, with a Wyong trial keeping her ticking over.
15. Killer Kerr is the knockout down in the weights, a mare that can produce a big finish and is often reliant on luck in transit, but may get that here with a genuine tempo after running the fastest last 200m of her latest affair.
4. Audrey’s Lane landed the cash for us first-up when well backed to win the March 14 Midway, and while she rises in weight and maps a little more awkwardly here, she still has to be among the contenders.
3. Art Volant can be forgiven for the 1600m attempt last time, and the drop back in trip suits.
Selections: 10-15-4-3.
Race 2 - 1:05PM Asahi Super Dry Neville Sellwood Stakes Tips (2000m)
2. Barnavara brings a strong European profile into this, the import Yulong paid around $10 million for, and she was a Group 1 winner at her latest in France back in October, winning four of her last five at stakes level.
Her last three victories have come around this distance range, and while she hasn’t been seen publicly at the trials, James McDonald taking the ride is a clear push in what looks a moderate race to begin her Australian career.
6. Caviar Heights is a lightly raced five-year-old who warrants respect with William Haggas’ strong Sydney record, especially when paired with Tom Marquand, and any market support should be respected.
1. Bois D’Argent is pressing for a win after giving a strong sight in the Parramatta Cup fresh and backing that up with another honest effort second-up despite doing the donkey work.
8. Portland has been ticking over well over shorter trips, and the rise in distance is a positive.
Selections: 2-6-1-8.
Race 3 - 1:40PM Drinkwise Baillieu Tips (1400m)
4. Persian Wonder has been the juvenile catching the eye late in Golden Slipper lead-ups over shorter trips, including the Pago Pago where he got home from fourth and recorded the fastest closing sectionals.
He draws kindly here, gets James McDonald aboard, and stepping to 1400m looks the right progression, and that sectionals profile suggests he is ready to show his best over this longer journey.
8. Seraphox trialled well ahead of his debut in the Todman and while a bit out of his depth there, the run was better than it looked in a race that didn’t suit, and he is suited getting to 1400m.
2. Wolf Gap also comes through the Todman where he was one-paced but stuck on well for third, following an eye-catching debut win at Warwick Farm.
3. Anthropoid has gone up a huge price off a first-up failure, but he looked a horse with middle-distance promise in his first prep.
Selections: 4-8-2-3.
Race 4 - 2:15PM Quayclean Handicap Tips (1400m)
6. Charcoals looked like he would need the run fresh and while that proved the case on February 28, it was still a good effort after being dragged back to last and forced home in the inferior going.
He was well placed at Kembla Grange and arguably should have won on March 13 after being held up before running the fastest closing sectionals of the program, and while he’s never been tried at 1400m, it may be worth a look.
2. Our Gold Hope resumed in Group 3 company and was okay, and she’s often been competitive in much stronger company in previous campaigns and typically improves with a run or two.
13. Our Queen got the right run to win fresh over 1100m, which was on the short side, and the mare now drops 3kg and rises in trip, and she is lightly raced with upside.
11. Captain Furai is honest and will get every chance again, although the favourite does look short enough.
Selections: 6-2-13-11.
Race 5 - 2:50PM Toyota Forklifts Tulloch Stakes Tips (2000m)
7. Varjak presents at an each-way price for a James McDonald ride, which is rare, the big son of Contributer recording an eye-catching New Zealand debut win before joining the Ciaron Maher yard.
He relished the rise in trip last start with 60kg when attacking the line for third behind a quinella who both carried 4.5kg less, and that strength late suggests he will relish getting to 2000m.
1. Arcora is probably the safest option, bringing solid spring form including a Victoria Derby second behind Observer, and he has improved with every run this prep, including an Australian Cup Prelude win.
3. O’sheamus also brings spring form lines through Observer, and while very dour this campaign, he looks a type that will continue to furnish with more racing.
5. Storm Leopard broke through in style before running well at Caulfield as the best closer behind Salty Pearl, now draws well and gets to 2000m.
Selections: 7-1-3-5.
Race 6 - 3:25PM Vinery Stud Stakes Tips (2000m)
1. Ohope Wins fits the profile of recent Vinery Stud Stakes winners, a favourite coming through as a last-start Group 1 winner in New Zealand, which both Orchestral and Prowess had done.
She has since joined Chris Waller and moved well in a quiet trial leading in, and while this may be a clean-up toward the Australian Oaks, her class and that form profile carry strongly into this.
6. Long Legs looks the value runner, stepping to 2000m which appears what she is looking for after being one-paced this prep, and Nash Rawiller is a perfect engagement, a strong and aggressive hoop who will look to lead.
2. Belle Cheval is another Kiwi who has won two of three this prep and just missed last start to a smart, well-ridden rival, and this is her first try at 2000m.
9. Stand My Ground is a huge price but progressive, and while Panova and Salty Pearl have to be respected, she’s your bolter for exotics.
Selections: 1-6-2-9.
Race 7 - 4:00PM Schweppes Emancipation Stakes Tips (1500m)
6. Idle Flyer had support first-up despite 1200m being on the short side, and that proved the case when only getting warm late behind Gangsta Granny, an out-and-out sprinter who was too sharp at six furlongs.
She has since won a Warwick Farm trial in good fashion and has won all three prior second-up runs, while her Group class credentials were proven in a similar event to this in spring before heading to Melbourne.
13. Modella was unsuited first-up but improved to win as the best bet at Rosehill on March 14 when aided by a fast tempo, and a wetter track may be the query this time, but it is otherwise a suitable black-type target.
2. Verona Rose ran the second fastest closing sectionals of the Coolmore Classic and had been racing well prior, and she continues to hold her form and handles all surfaces.
4. Sunset Park could be the knockout, a Group 2 winner over the Melbourne Cup Carnival before a spell, and recent trials suggest she is forward enough.
Selections: 6-13-2-4.
Race 8 - 4:35PM Kia Tancred Stakes Tips (2400m)
9. Aeliana has been the subject of early money after breaking through in the Ranvet Stakes last Saturday, her first victory since last year’s Australian Derby, which was her only try at 2400m.
The Chris Waller-trained mare brings race fitness and confidence into the Tancred Stakes, which she’ll need against some very well-credentialed opposition, and we may get a better price closer to the jump.
2. Vauban is building nicely this preparation after winning the Sky High Stakes again, and he was unlucky in last year’s Tancred when held up off the speed, and remains a classy runner despite not fully living up to early hype.
1. Dubai Honour is a multiple Group 1 winner, including this race last year, and while not getting any younger, he remains the benchmark in this field on ratings.
3. Soul Of Spain is looking for this distance and is building nicely, but whether he has the class to measure up at WFA level remains to be seen.
Selections: 9-2-1-3.
Race 9 - 5:15PM Racing And Sports Doncaster Prelude Tips (1500m)
1. Sepals carries the weight for a reason as the class runner, returning well in the Newmarket where 1200m was on the short side, and his spring featured a brave Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes win when sitting on a strong tempo and a Golden Eagle second behind star mare Autumn Glow.
He has the tactical speed to be prominent here under Tommy Berry, and that form profile suggests he is well suited getting back out to 1500m.
14. Lord Penman is aiming to make a late Doncaster bid and was competitive last spring in good company before winning first-up this prep, and the Ajax Stakes was effectively a trial after being dragged back and held up.
13. Enxuto also comes through the Ajax Stakes, which he arguably should have won, having been held up before running the fastest closing sectionals.
9. Welwal is as well weighted as he has been for some time and goes third-up with blinkers on off two solid runs, although this is harder.
Selections: 1-14-13-9.
Race 10 - 5:55PM E Security Group Star Kingdom Stakes Tips (1200m)
6. King’s Secret has been very genuine early in his career, with six wins and five placings from 12 starts, including a return third on March 14 at Rosehill where he ran the fastest last 200m of the meeting.
Private Eye’s half-brother does have a tricky gate to overcome here, which is the main query, but he is tactically versatile, and that most recent return suggests he will relish 1200m second-up.
10. Raikkonen creates interest at a price, his second-up run in the Silver Eagle last spring too bad to be true before a spell, but he showed plenty of promise as a late three-year-old, including a fresh win over King Of Roseau.
1. Gangsta Granny has a wide gate to overcome but should roll forward, and she has never finished out of the money in 10 starts, with two of her last three losses coming against Autumn Glow and Stefi Magnetica.
12. Celui brings race fitness after a first-up win before going south, where he stuck on well behind Bridle Waltz, who was then competitive in The Galaxy.
Selections: 6-10-1-12.
