Horsham Best Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Cosmic Voyage

Cosmic Voyage showed promise in his jump-outs ahead of a race-day debut at Donald on May 2, where the Danny O'Brien-trained gelding finished runner-up over 1200m in a two-year-old handicap on Good ground.

The son of Cosmic Force raced prominently on that occasion before finding only Shintono too strong, with that winner subsequently performing well in metropolitan company at Doomben to provide an encouraging reference from the debut performance.

Spelled following that initial appearance, Cosmic Voyage now returns as a three-year-old over a shorter distance, with the drop back to 1100m and forecast Soft 5 conditions unlikely to pose significant concerns given his early promise.

Two top-three finishes in Flemington jump-outs have provided a solid foundation for his return, with the gelding expected to have benefited from that earlier race experience and further improvement likely as he begins his second preparation.

An inside barrier is another positive in this maiden, while John Allen takes the ride after partnering Cosmic Voyage in his latest jump-out, giving the gelding an excellent opportunity to break through first-up.

Horsham Value Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Second Fix

Two top-three finishes from three previous first-up appearances give Second Fix an encouraging fresh profile, with the six-year-old returning to racing on Sunday following a change of stable.

His only unplaced first-up effort came at Warrnambool in late December, where he finished sixth but was beaten less than one-and-a-half lengths, before improving deeper into that preparation to record a victory at Swan Hill in March.

The gelding subsequently ended his campaign with a disappointing last-of-eight finish at Stawell in April, although there have been more encouraging signs since joining the Holly McKechnie stable, particularly in the second of two recent jump-outs.

All three of Second Fix's career victories have come on Good ground, making the prospect of a drying surface a positive, while his previous first-up performances suggest he is capable of producing a competitive effort without the benefit of recent racing.

Barrier three should allow Christine Puls to secure an economical run, and although the drop back to 1100m presents a slight query, Second Fix has enough ability to make his presence felt at an attractive price.

Horsham Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Coronationhercules

Two victories from four career appearances underline the promise of Coronationhercules, who has made an encouraging start for the Brett Scott stable, with all four performances coming on rain-affected ground.

The gelding recorded his latest success over 1500m in BM62 company at Mornington on September 4, challenging through the centre of the track before prevailing by half a length in a performance that has since received useful form endorsements.

Both the third and fourth placegetters from that Mornington contest have subsequently won, adding substance to the victory and suggesting Coronationhercules is capable of measuring up as he steps into stronger company for Sunday's $100,000 Melbourne Cup Country Final qualifying heat.

Freshened since that latest appearance, the lightly raced gelding demonstrated his wellbeing with a fourth-place finish in a Mornington jump-out earlier this month, while the slight drop to 1400m should pose no problems given his maiden breakthrough came over the same distance at Sale.

Dylan Dunn retains the ride after partnering Coronationhercules in all four career starts, and although Good ground would present something new, the gelding looks to have further improvement to come and shapes as a leading contender in this tougher assignment.

Manhari Horsham Cup Tips (Race 7)

Horsham Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Aftermath

Aftermath has produced a couple of respectable performances in defeat at recent country Cup meetings, finishing fifth at both Coleraine and Hamilton as he looks to return to winning form for the Paul Preusker stable.

The latest of those came in the Hamilton Cup earlier this month, where the gelding was beaten five-and-a-half lengths over 2200m on a Soft surface, and while that result was below his best, the performance provides another solid fitness reference.

Although yet to win since arriving from New Zealand last season, the son of Rock 'N' Pop has a particularly strong record over Sunday's 2100m distance, with four victories from eight attempts giving him an impressive 50% strike rate at the trip.

His recent performances have come on rain-affected ground, although Aftermath is also a proven winner on Good surfaces, making a potential track upgrade no concern, while his customary patient racing pattern should allow him to conserve energy before producing his finish.

Linda Meech takes the ride for the first time, and with Aftermath carrying an attractive 55.5kg and returning to a distance where he has enjoyed considerable success, he looks capable of giving Preusker a strong chance in the Horsham Cup.
