Geelong presents an eight-race card on Wednesday, April 22, featuring Benchmark handicaps. Key highlights include the D-Day Pest Control F&M BM70 with a value bet on Into You, who looks promising at a shorter distance. Alzaro is the best bet in the Loan Market BM62 after a drop in grade. Vegas Jack, racing in the Paul Kelly Creative BM62, is suggested as a roughie with a good chance at an open race. In the Rex Gorell Volkswagen BM70, Mrs Iglesia is highly recommended, expected to capitalize on recent form improvements.

Geelong hosts an eight-race country card on Wednesday, April 22, with a mix of Benchmark handicaps and competitive fields set to test depth across the program.

With several races likely to be run at a genuine tempo and form lines crossing over from recent Victorian meetings, punters can also follow all the action via Live Streaming.

Geelong Tips April 22

D-Day Pest Control F&M BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Geelong Value Bet - Race 5 No. 6 Into You

Keeping Into You in the 1400m to 1600m range should be the aim going forward, as while this is a sharp drop in trip from the 2000m of the Country Oaks on April 3, she simply didn’t run out the distance there.

The drop back in trip is a big tick on Wednesday.

At a similar trip third-up on March 9, she ran the fastest last 800m, 600m and 400m of a Warrnambool BM66, a race that has produced three subsequent winners.

This five-year-old looked destined for bigger things earlier in her career with some excellent form lines.

With a small field potentially in her favour against her own sex in what may be a tactical affair, she should have time to wind up and have the last look at them.

Loan Market BM62 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Geelong Best Bet - Race 6 No. 12 Alzaro

A drop in grade and a slight rise in trip look ideal here for Alzaro, a Ciaron Maher-trained filly who was tested at Group 3 level twice after a Horsham breakthrough in the spring.

Both runs this campaign suggest she is heading in the right direction, with the opening run of the prep a third-of-eight at Caulfield on March 18.

That race was taken out by the smart Oliveanotherday, who looks a potential stakes-class horse after another big Caulfield win on April 11.

Staying at 1200m may have worked against her last start at Sandown, where she hit a flat spot before getting warm late with the race’s fastest last 200m in an on-speed dominated event.

She will strip fitter third-up and this looks an ideal opportunity to get win number two on the board.

Paul Kelly Creative BM62 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Geelong Roughie - Race 7 No. 7 Vegas Jack

Prepared locally by Craig Conran, Vegas Jack had little to fault in his first campaign for the stable over the spring, with two wins from three starts.

He arguably should have won all three, with the Ararat miss coming second-up when back and wide, yet still surging late to finish third from off the speed.

His last jumpout on April 2 suggested he would need the run fresh on April 10, which a late market drift also indicated.

With 63kg in what was an on-speed dominated affair, he gets a pass mark despite being well held.

The rise in distance is in his favour, and while he may still be improving over further, it would not shock to see him measure up in an open race at a big price.

Rex Gorell Volkswagen BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Geelong Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 11 Mrs Iglesia

The three-year-old improved off what was just an even return on the Caulfield Heath track to place in two of her next three starts.

There were excuses in the seventh-of-10 finish in her only subsequent miss out of the money, when making ground from back and wide.

On that occasion, she recorded the fastest last 400m and 200m of the race.

Mrs Iglesia arguably should have won her latest, having been held up in the straight before finishing strongly into second.

The form has been franked through Not Surprised, who won at Mornington last Saturday, while the second-up reference around Gentle Steel also reads well after that mare led throughout at Caulfield to score on VOBIS Day.
