Doomben Best Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Swing State

The gelding showed improvement with racing across three starts last preparation, delivering his best effort when finishing third at Hawkesbury in October.

Stepping up to 1800m for the first time, Swing State was beaten less than a length on a Soft 6 surface on that occasion.

He was subsequently spelled and produced a solid Beaudesert trial before resuming at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

The three-year-old finished fourth there, beaten just over three-and-a-half lengths on a Good 4 track over 1400m.

The rise back in distance suits, and with cheekpieces replacing blinkers, he is expected to roll forward again, while Michael Freedman’s strong record at the track and the booking of Jace McMurray add further confidence.

Doomben Roughie - Race 4 No. 11 Propose

Matt Kropp’s mare registered a couple of wins last month, including a narrow success in a Benchmark 60 at Ipswich.

She has continued to perform well in defeat since, including a seventh placing over 1830m at Eagle Farm where she was beaten less than three lengths in a Benchmark 70.

The four-year-old followed that with another solid effort when finishing fourth, beaten just over a length in a Benchmark 65 last time out.

On that occasion, she settled back after an awkward start before working home strongly in the straight.

The rise in distance looks suitable, and with a light racing weight and Frederick Larson aboard, she profiles as a genuine chance to surprise.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 7 Dream Thinker

The four-year-old has been in strong form since finishing down the track in an Ipswich maiden first-up this preparation.

After that 1350m run, Dream Thinker has recorded three wins from his past four starts, all in partnership with Georgina Cartwright.

His first two victories came at Toowoomba, including a comfortable win over 2000m three runs back.

He then finished second in a 2050m Benchmark 65 at the Gold Coast before returning to winning form last start at Ipswich, overcoming a wide barrier to score over 2170m.

Tony Gollan’s runner looks ready for the rise in grade, and while all wins have come on firm ground, a Soft 5 should not pose too many issues as he looks capable of a first metro success.

Doomben Value Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Kadesky

The son of Street Boss was well held in his first four career starts, including at Canterbury in November.

However, he has shown improvement in two runs this preparation, starting with a third over 1200m at this track last month.

Settling behind the speed from an inside draw, he was beaten just over three-and-a-half lengths on that occasion.

Stepping up to 1400m at Eagle Farm two weeks ago, he overcame interference at a crucial stage before finishing strongly to win by half a length.

The three-year-old again draws well, retains the services of Damien Thornton, and with the slight drop in distance no concern, looks capable of going on with it.
