Geraldton Tips September 30

Country Comfort Perth Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Geraldton Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Dutch Por

Still lightly raced for a six-year-old, Dutch Por was not knocked about in a Belmont trial on September 14 ahead of Wednesday’s resumption, with the son of Ducimus returning after an excellent first preparation for the Albert Bowtell stable.

He was competitive in all four Geraldton appearances after joining the yard, beginning over 1100m on April 6 in what was also his most recent fresh attempt, where the trip proved on the sharp side after he conceded ground from a wide draw but still rattled home to produce the fastest final 400m and 200m of the entire meeting.

Dutch Por improved again when backing up seven days later on April 13 to record another third, then finished runner-up on April 23 before bringing up a deserved victory on May 4 in a 58+ that has since produced five subsequent winners.

Although back up in the weights, this is a modest assignment where early favourite Hyperreal brings race fitness but has won only two of 34 starts and has not tasted victory since November last year, with Magic Carat another exposed danger boasting just one win from 18.

Kicking off over this distance range looks a major positive in what is not the strongest Class 2, and if Dutch Por reproduces the level he showed throughout his first Geraldton preparation, he should prove hard to beat.

Geraldton Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 8 Snippy Sean

There may be some intent around Snippy Sean on his first start for the George Dupre stable, with the five-year-old given two Belmont trials ahead of Wednesday’s return.

His August 31 hit-out offered little encouragement, but the September 14 trial was far more promising as he finished sixth after being held up in the straight and produced notable work through and past the line once clear, suggesting the stable wanted a more searching hit-out before sending him back to the races.

Snippy Sean did not quite progress as hoped under the Morton stable, but he has always shown ability, highlighted by a 60+ metropolitan victory at Ascot in May last year.

His most recent campaign fell away late, although the first two performances were strong, beginning with a third in a Belmont Class 3 before another placing in the $125,000 Thoroughbred Breeders Australia Trophy, a race that contained genuine depth.

Dropping to the 54kg minimum gives him another advantage first-up, while Natasha Faithfull takes the ride with a career strike rate of around 15% at Geraldton and 134 winners at the track heading into Wednesday’s program.

Geraldton Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Archenemy

The 1100m is a little short of Archenemy’s best, but the gelding possesses a big finishing burst and the early each-way quote appeals given his strong Geraldton record of two wins and three placings from six attempts.

There were genuine excuses in the only top-three miss at the track when he found trouble in a 1200m Class 1 on March 13, before making amends with a dominant Class 2 victory on April 9 when opening up a big margin over Leonardo Da Grey, who again shapes as one of the main threats here.

Archenemy has also shown he can carry weight after saluting with 59kg in that April success, while wide gates worked against him in two subsequent Geraldton runs and he still managed to place on both occasions, including when lumping 61kg in a Class 2 on April 30.

He then produced a competitive Belmont effort when stretched to the mile before heading for a break, and although his get-back racing pattern means he generally needs some luck in transit, he has the turn of foot to reel them in late if the gaps appear.

Kyra Yuill takes the fresh ride for the Megan Forrester stable, and with the yard in solid recent form, Archenemy looks capable of making his presence felt at an each-way price.
