Doomben Tips September 30

Ethos Building & Restoration Class 4 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Doomben Best Bet - Race 3 No. 5 Twisted Queen

Two placings from her last three starts have Twisted Queen ticking over nicely, including a strong third at this venue earlier in the month in a Class 3 Plate on Good ground.

Beaten just under two-and-a-half lengths on that occasion, the form has not been properly tested yet with only one runner having subsequently emerged from the race.

The switch to a Soft surface is firmly in her favour, with all three of her previous victories having come in wet conditions.

She tracked the speed here last time out and, from barrier seven, similar tactics are expected in a race where she should again be able to settle within striking distance.

The daughter of Hallowed Crown makes her second start since joining Jack Bruce, and the decision to bypass a race at Toowoomba for this assignment could prove significant.

Insurebuild Class 3 Plate Tips (Race 5)

Doomben Roughie - Race 5 No. 2 First Mission

A strong first-up record gives First Mission plenty of appeal here, with both of his career victories coming fresh, including a track-and-trip success in October last year when scoring by more than a length.

Although unable to add another win from seven subsequent starts, the gelding produced several solid efforts in defeat, including a runner-up finish at the Gold Coast first-up last preparation on a Soft 7.

Any drying of the track would hold no concerns for the son of Snitzel, with his previous Doomben 1200m victory having come on Good ground.

The wide barrier is the obvious query, but Emily Pozman’s 3kg claim helps offset the draw and gives him a favourable weight setup for his return.

A recent trial second at Doomben should have him forward enough to perform first-up, and he looks capable of outrunning his price.

Arc Projects Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Doomben Value Bet - Race 7 No. 11 Fearless Win

Fearless Win’s sole career victory came over this course and distance when resuming last preparation, with the filly scoring by more than a length from barrier nine on Good ground.

Four subsequent starts followed through that campaign, with the best of those efforts coming when finishing third over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast on her penultimate appearance.

A spell came after she finished sixth over 1200m here in July, and the daughter of Astern has since indicated she is ready to return with a solid recent trial at the Gold Coast.

Any drying of the track would enhance her chances, although Allan Chau’s mare has shown she can handle wet ground, while the inside barrier is another positive.

Tactical versatility is another asset and, with the right run on return, she looks capable of making her presence felt at a big price.
