Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 6 Siragusa

A sound Warwick Farm trial on August 18 preceded a more moderate Randwick hit-out 10 days later, but Siragusa put any concerns to one side with a very solid first-up performance at Randwick Kensington on September 9.

The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained four-year-old was no match for all-the-way winner Komodo Dragon, who had race fitness on his side, but worked home strongly to finish second and produced the fastest final 200m of the race.

He also finished ahead of Unstopabull, who franked the form seven days later with a BM72 victory at Canterbury, adding further substance to the fresh performance.

There was plenty of promise through his three-year-old season, beginning with a strong debut win at Tamworth and a dominant Muswellbrook BM58 success before he lost the rider in the Listed South Pacific Classic and later finished sixth in a handy Saturday BM72 won by Enamorada, with Mr Miller runner-up and Night Agent third.

Getting to 1400m second-up looks suitable for a galloper who has already shown enough quality against good opposition, and further improvement from the return will have him in the mix once again.

United Resource Management Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 5 No. 10 Savvy Spy

The Kembla Grange return on August 29 was enough to suggest Savvy Spy was in for a productive campaign, with the gelding getting home strongly for second behind handy stablemate Harry Lime over 1400m.

That effort carried merit after he was held up at a key stage, while Harry Lime had already won his previous start and subsequently headed to stronger company.

His Canterbury performance second-up on September 16 can be forgiven after he was asked to do plenty of work from a wide draw to land outside the leader before fading late, with the four-year-old still building fitness at that stage.

The Waterhouse and Bott-trained son of Savabeel remains lightly raced, having won on debut at Kembla Grange last spring before stretching out to 2000m at Hawkesbury during his first campaign.

The rise to 1800m third-up should suit his staying profile and, with progression expected off the Canterbury effort, Savvy Spy looks capable of sharp improvement at an each-way price.

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Regal Problem

The main query for Regal Problem is the 3kg rise in the weights, but she remains in BM72 company against her own sex for Wednesday’s hat-trick bid after two slick wins since joining the Joe Pride stable.

The four-year-old returned with an encouraging Gosford victory on August 28 before justifying short-priced favouritism at Randwick Kensington on September 9, where she produced a sharp turn of foot to score again.

She has previously been tried over further, including a 1400m win and a competitive 1800m performance earlier in the year, but keeping her around these shorter trips appears to be bringing out her best.

The extra 50m to 1300m should pose no issue and barrier five gives Tyler Schiller the opportunity to find cover before producing her late, with the jockey retaining the ride after partnering her in both wins this preparation.

Still lightly raced and clearly thriving in her new surroundings, Regal Problem looks capable of continuing her progression through the grades and completing the hat-trick.

Gremmo Homes Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Rosehill Value Bet - Race 7 No. 9 Santana

Santana’s debut at Flemington in June last year was better than the result suggests, with the inexperienced colt showing greenness before being spelled and gelded ahead of a much more consistent second campaign.

He finished in the money at all four starts through that preparation, breaking his maiden at Sandown third-up before producing a brave third in the $300,000 Up & Coming Stars Series Final at Caulfield after covering ground.

There was useful form around that feature, with Dirty Look finishing fifth before returning this campaign to win impressively at Sandown and Cranbourne, the latter coming last Friday.

Team Hawkes has prepared Santana for this return with two Rosehill trials, the first seeing him finish third behind General Salute before that galloper won the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap, while his latest hit-out produced another third behind Group 1 Newmarket Handicap winner Caballus.

He draws barrier four with Tyler Schiller aboard, has upside and, at an each-way price, looks capable of making a strong return over 1200m.
