Canterbury hosts a competitive midweek program on Wednesday, April 22, with an eight-race card featuring a mix of progressive types and lightly raced runners looking to build through the grades.

Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 3 Graffiti Tycoon

With more favours, Graffiti Tycoon would have saluted on debut as a well-supported favourite at Warwick Farm on April 1, where he was forced to sustain a wide run from off the speed and also shifted in under pressure in the home straight.

Despite that, he only found one better, with the first two putting a margin on the rest of the field.

While it is a slight drop in trip on Wednesday, he maps to get more favours this time around from barrier one.

That Super Maiden form has stood up well, with the fourth-placegetter breaking through next start, while the third horse has finished second either side of that Warwick Farm event.

Even the fifth-placegetter from that April 1 race was runner-up to a smart Metallic Cat the start prior, which further strengthens the form reference.

Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Canterbury Value Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Erin Jo

This Kris Lees-trained filly is superbly bred, with Erin Jo by I'm Invincible and out of Lucia Valentina, a three-time Group 1 winner.

The three-year-old was building well through her second campaign and improved sharply third-up at Warwick Farm when taking out a Super Maiden before a spell.

That victory was better than the narrow margin suggests, as Erin Jo was held up at key stages and had to overcome trouble to score.

Beaten as favourite first-up at Newcastle, she still produced a solid resumption when making ground as runner-up behind Lightning Glory.

That form has been franked, with the winner scoring impressively at Wyong last week, and while she rises in weight, she returns to her own sex and the step up in distance looks ideal second-up.

Yarraman Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Canterbury Roughie - Race 6 No. 8 Mogwai

Getting right down in the weights after the 3kg claim from apprentice Mollie Fitzgerald, Mogwai carries just 52.5kg for this resumption.

The gelding moved well in a quiet trial at Kembla Grange, although that was early last month.

He was consistent without winning over the spring, with his best effort arguably a fourth-of-18 finish in the $500,000 Four Pillars.

On that occasion, he was the best of the on-speed runners, while a quieter ride in a Kembla Grange Midway before a spell saw him record the fastest last 600m of the race.

Mogwai brings strong fresh statistics, with five wins and three placings from eight first-up attempts, and the only miss was a fourth in a Saturday BM78 last winter taken out by King Of Roseau, who won his next two starts, including a Group 3.

Exceedance @ Vinery Stud Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Canterbury Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Blitzgal

James McDonald and Chris Waller combine with Blitzgal, who is likely to start favourite in the final event on the program.

While she will find this tougher stepping out of maiden company, her debut victory on Easter Monday at Rosehill rated very well.

Her 1400m maiden was run around seven-and-a-half lengths faster overall than the BM64 contested later on that card.

The daughter of Churchill made a mess of her rivals on debut and attracted significant market support in the process.

She comes back slightly in distance, but that is not a major concern early in a first preparation for a galloper who is still working through the grades, and on paper the filly looks to have found a very winnable assignment to go back-to-back.
