Cranbourne Tips August 1

Cranbourne Value Bet - Race 3 No. 14 Morisu Ojo

A $200,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale back in 2023, Morisu Ojo completed three jump-out’s prior to debuting last month.

The best of those jump-out efforts saw her finish fourth over 850m at Ballarat and she jumped at big odds for her debut at Geelong as a result.

The filly was ridden with restraint that day, however. she kept on nicely in behind rivals to be beaten just over five lengths into fourth in a 1430m event.

The winner came home nearly four lengths clear when racing on a Soft 7 surface that day and Morisu Ojo is expected to have improved for that experience.

The only runner to emerge from that contest delivered a respectable effort at metro level subsequently, while the extra distance here is expected to suit Ciaron Maher’s filly.

A wide barrier is far from ideal, however, jockey Ben Melham rides Cranbourne well.

Cranbourne Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 10 Superliv

Trained by Leon & Troy Corstens & Will Larkin, Superliv was thought good enough to debut at Group 3 level, having been purchased for $350,000 as a yearling.

While the three-year-old faded after racing on the pace in Sandown’s Blue Diamond Preview that day, she had shown up well in taking out her sole jump-out prior to that.

Ultimately, Superliv was beaten over eleven-and-a-half-lengths when beating just one rival home at Sandown and she was spelled following that effort.

The filly put in a couple of good efforts in jump-out’s ahead of her return to action. with the second of those seeing her salute over 800m at Werribee in early June.

She returned to action with a good effort in coming from mid-division to finish one-and-a-half-lengths third in a 1000m maiden at Wangarratta.

The youngster encountered a wet track  for the first time that day and she looks up to joining the second and fourth home that day in winning next time.

Cranbourne Favourite - Race 5 No. 2 Andiamo Rosso

The gelding failed to make an impact when debuting over 1200m at Pakenham in February last year, however, he left that effort well behind at Moe last December.

Andiamo Rosso registered a half-length victory when contesting a 1200m maiden held on a Good 4 track on that occasion.

The five-year-old raced from off the pace that day and he was spelled following a below par effort when beating just one rival home over the same distance here subsequently.

Wendy Kelly’s gelding recorded three good jump-out efforts at this venue, including a win at the start of June prior to resuming at Seymour recently.

A change of tactics saw him race on the pace prior to delivering a third-place finish when contesting a 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap.

The son of Akeed Mofeed had no issues with the Soft 7 surface that day and with similar going expected here, he looks capable of recording a win.

A Touch Of Class Group BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Cranbourne Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Placentia Bay

The five-year-old is lightly-raced, having made just six starts prior to today.

Placentia Bay has finished in the first three in five of those, including when winning over this course and distance on debut.

The son of Churchill came home two-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals that day and he backed that effort up with a close second at Bendigo just under three weeks later.

Ciaron Maher’s representative has since gone on to prove that he can be competitive at metro level, including when half-a-length third at Moonee Valley in early December.

He raced over the Cox Plate course and distance when competing at Benchmark 70 level that day and he gets a drop in grade here.

While all previous efforts have come on good going, he appeared to handle a wet track in a barrier trial and this is a winnable fresh assignment.
