Ascot Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Celestial Storm

This sets up well for Celestial Storm, who finds her easiest race of the campaign at 66+ level after racing in 78+, Listed company and 72+ grade so far through a spaced-out preparation.

The drop in distance to 1000m is also a plus, given four of her five career victories have come over this trip.

Her worst performance since joining the Luke Fernie stable came second-up on New Year’s Day.

The last-start effort was more encouraging, with the five-year-old recording the race-fastest last 200m of the January 24 event, where she was held up at key stages.

With William Pike taking the reins, this looks her chance to grab a sixth career win.

Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 10 Southern Firetail

Despite a poor debut as a well-backed favourite, that first race-day appearance came in a Saturday three-year-old affair.

He has improved with racing, having been unsuited by the race shape at his second start before recording a soft breakthrough at Pinjarra on January 15.

A fortnight ago, Southern Firetail was again forced to the rear early from a wide gate.

He looped the field to finish third, recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race in the process.

An extra 200m, William Pike back on and a low draw are all positives, with the question whether he can now hold his form deep into his first preparation.

Bisley Workwear - Cyril Flower Stakes Tips (Race 8)

Ascot Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 12 Wubin Gold

It is an open feature, and a fit mare who could figure if conditions allow runners to make ground is Wubin Gold.

She has a nice turn-of-foot, and the return to 1200m suits her here.

Her tenth-of-twelve finish last time at Ascot was much better than it reads, with the five-year-old completely unsuited when back in the field in an on-speed dominated event.

Despite that, she rattled off the fastest closing sectionals of the entire January 10 card.

One at longer odds is Oly’s Choice, with a big price deserving first-up off a long absence after a short and failed February campaign last year, but he moved well in a recent trial win and is a classy animal when right.

City Of Belmont Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Ascot Value Bet - Race 9 No. 6 All Grunt

While he was successful fresh in his two prior campaigns, the December lead-up work suggested All Grunt would take a few runs to hit his straps this time.

Somewhat surprisingly, the grey was a firm favourite first-up, where he was never in contention over 1200m.

Although he was a little tardy away again, the last effort at 1400m was a pass mark.

There is now a platform to attack the mile arriving third-up from a decent layoff.

Dropping sharply in the weights, the three-time stakes placegetter looks to have found a winnable race, but he does need to do more right at the start.
