This part of the season represents a fantastic chance for de Minaur to reclaim a spot inside the top 10 after recently dropping to No. 13. The Aussie didn't play from Wimbledon until the US Open last year due to a hip injury, so this 500 event in Washington, along with two Masters 1000 events coming up in Canada and Cincinnati provide de Minaur with an opportunity to get back amongst the game's elite.

It would be fair to say de Minaur isn't playing his best tennis right now, but his level is still more than solid enough to navigate this opening test. Bu had a great year in 2024 to crack the top 100, but he's struggled to back it up in 2025 and he comes into this tournament without a win over a player inside the top 60 all season. Bu has lost seven of his last nine matches overall, so backing Demon to cover a -4.5 games line and reach the third round.

De Minaur leads 1-0, registering a 6-4 6-4 victory in the R64 of the Miami Masters earlier this year.

De Minaur comes into this contest with a 30-13 record on the season, but he's still without a title in 2025 and has dropped outside the top 10.

It's been a typically solid year for de Minaur - he reached the Australian Open quarter-finals and finished runner-up in Rotterdam to start the season and also made the Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals.

However, the Aussie suffered a surprise second round exit at Roland Garros and afterwards spoke of mental and physical burnout.

De Minaur went on to have a solid Wimbledon campaign, reaching the fourth round before going down in four sets to Novak Djokovic.

The 26-year-old has experienced mixed results in Washington throughout his career - he made the final in his debut appearance in 2018, but has failed to win a single match in his last three showings in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

Yunchaokete Bu Form

It's been a horror season for Bu - he's registered a poor 6-19 record at tour-level and risks dropping outside the top 100 by the end of the year if he doesn't turn things around.

Currently ranked No. 75 in the world, Bu is defending semi-final points in Hangzhou and the ATP 500 event in Beijing in September, the latter of which he defeated the likes of Lorenzo Musetti and Andrey Rublev.

Bu just hasn't been able to repeat those sorts of efforts throughout 2025 - last year he went 2-2 vs top 20 players, but this season he's gone 0-6. In fact, Bu has failed to beat a player ranked higher than No. 60 all year.

The 23-year-old had lost seven of his last eight matches before arriving in Washington, but he grabbed a confidence-boosting 6-4 7-5 victory over David Goffin in Round 1.
