Several lightly raced gallopers look ready to improve, while the expected rain-affected conditions could prove a key factor across the meeting.

Pinjarra Value Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Buderim

Following an even return when second elect for a Bunbury maiden on February 26, blinkers were applied to Buderim ahead of his second-up attempt at Albany on March 19.

That gear change sparked the four-year-old, who went straight to the front and scored comfortably in a race that rated well for maiden grade, with three subsequent winners emerging from the event.

He also impressed in a lead-up trial ahead of Thursday's resumption, winning a Lark Hill heat on June 15 in what was the third-fastest 950m trial of the morning.

That trial featured a handy line-up, including Rubens' Calling, who was a Saturday metropolitan winner earlier this season.

He remains lightly raced, and his career opened with back-to-back placings on rain-affected tracks, while his maiden victory also came on wet ground.

Pinjarra Best Bet - Race 5 No. 9 Vexatious Rose

She's had her chances, arriving second-up for Simon Miller as a 10-start maiden, although she isn't alone in that regard in what looks a thin field.

Vexatious Rose has placed in eight of those 10 starts, most of which have come in stronger company.

Her previous preparation included a narrow runner-up finish in a Bunbury maiden won by Herault, who has since returned with back-to-back wins and a stakes placing at Belmont on June 20.

She simply found one better when resuming on June 11, but fought on well behind the progressive Enchanted Hour, with that pair clearing out from the remainder of the field.

That encouraging 1400m return followed a good trial, she handled a Soft 6 first-up, and this looks a prime opportunity to break through.

Pinjarra Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Five Down

There's been plenty of merit in his winter performances to begin the campaign, including the June 6 resumption.

With even luck, Five Down may well have taken out that Class 3 event at big odds after being held up until the 150m before charging home with the fastest closing sectionals behind the progressive Poblano.

From a wide draw, the five-year-old was again ridden quietly at Belmont on June 16.

That performance was much better than the ninth-of-15 finish suggests, with Five Down caught in an impossible position before working home well.

The rise to 1400m is another positive, with two of his three victories coming over the trip, and fitter again from a kinder draw under Holly Watson, he looks well placed in a Class 3 that lacks depth.
