England faces DR Congo in the World Cup Round of 32 after a mixed group stage performance, aiming to build momentum. While England is favored to win with a clean sheet and under 2.5 goals, DR Congo enters this historic knockout round with confidence after solid group results. Bukayo Saka stands out as a player to watch for England. The match is available to stream via bet365 for eligible viewers. The recommendation: back England to progress, but expect a tight contest.

England vs DR Congo World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

England will be hoping to up the ante and improve on their lacklustre group showings when they square off against DR Congo in the World Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday at Mercedez-Benz Stadium.

England got their World Cup trophy bid off to a promising start by putting four goals past Croatia, but in their usual fashion, stumbled across their next two outings, registering a 0-0 stalemate with Ghana before an unconvincing 2-0 victory over Panama to top the group. Nevertheless, the Three Lions got the job done and they have an opportunity to build some momentum here heading into the business stage of the competition.

Congo meanwhile made history by making the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time, earning a point against Portugal before coming from behind to beat Uzbekistan to finish third in the group and qualify for the next stage. Yohan Wissa has stepped up with two goals, which is more than he scored throughout the entire Premier League season.

Congo proved they can hang with the elite nations by drawing with Portugal, but I think they've ran their race for the competition after a memorable group stage. Still, they can keep this game relatively tight and with England's current form, I'm not expecting a blowout.

I'm taking England to win with a clean sheet and Under 2.5 goals, while winger Bukayo Saka is building nicely this tournament and looks primed for a big performance here.
  • England have won 10 of their 11 competitive games under Thomas Tuchel
  • Fourteen of England's last 15 wins have been to nil
  • Seven of England's last nine games have seen Under 2.5 goals
  • Thirteen of Congo's last 16 games have seen Under 2.5 goals
  • Congo have failed to score in two of their last three defeats
  • Bukayo Saka has registered five shots & two assists in 106 minutes this World Cup, while he scored three goals at the 2022 World Cup
  • Three of England's last six wins have been via a 2-0 score

England vs DR Congo Head To Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the two nations, with England winning both of their previous World Cup knockout games against African opposition.

England Form Analysis

It wasn't pretty at times, but England got the job done and can now start plotting for the big games ahead as they chase a first World Cup since prevailing on home soil in 1966.

After an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening game, England regressed into bad old habits and were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw - although that result was enough to ensure their passage through to the knockout phase.

Thomas Tuchel's side weren't entirely convincing against Panama, but goals from superstars Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham were enough to register a 2-0 victory and top the group.

England Team News

Some concerns at right back as Jarell Quansah picked up an ankle injury, joining Reece James on the sideline.

Djed Spence is an option to start should Quansah be ruled out. Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford should operate on either flank, with Kane and Bellingham the main outlets.

DR Congo Form Analysis

It's been a brilliant World Cup for Congo, who have qualified for the knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Sebastien Desabre's side finished just one point behind Portugal and as the best third-ranked nation after some impressive performances.

Congo picked up a 1-1 draw with Portugal in their opening game and threatened at stages during a 1-0 defeat to Colombia, who look like they could go very deep into this tournament.

Under immense pressure and needing a win in their final group game, Congo produced a superb fightback against Uzbekistan after conceding early, coming away with a 2-1 victory courtesy of goals to Yohan Wissa and Fiston Mayele.

DR Congo Team News

No injury concerns for Congo.

Mayele might be pushing for a starting spot up front after his goal against Uzbekistan, but 35-year-old Cedric Bakambu should get the nod.
