Ipswich Tips October 15

Poco Vino Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. 6 Aremkay

Aremkay shaped as though she would benefit from the experience when finishing fifth on debut at Ipswich last month, beaten nearly eight lengths over 1710m.

The daughter of Power demonstrated improvement when stepping up to 1800m at Eagle Farm two weeks later, producing a solid fourth-place finish on a Good surface.

Slowly away on that occasion, the mare was ridden from off the pace before working home to finish two-and-a-half lengths from the winner, with further improvement expected from the experience.

While the first three home have yet to reappear, the seventh-placed runner has since franked the form with a subsequent victory, adding some substance to that Eagle Farm performance.

With fewer race-day opportunities than most of her rivals, Aremkay looks capable of taking another step forward, particularly with an inside barrier and a further rise in distance both working in her favour.

Racing And Sports Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Filthy

Two career starts have produced a runner-up finish and a third for Filthy, who resumed at Lismore last month with a promising performance in his first appearance for trainer Todd Pollard.

Racing prominently over 1200m on a Soft 5 surface, the four-year-old finished two lengths from the winner, while the sixth and tenth from that maiden have subsequently performed well in defeat at the Gold Coast.

The gelding had previously shown ability when finishing second at Mornington on his sole appearance for former trainer Clinton McDonald, giving him a consistent profile despite limited race-day experience.

Although the track is currently rated a Good 4, the prospect of rain and a possible downgrade would be positives for Filthy, whose two previous performances have both come on rain-affected ground.

Ben Thompson has made a strong start to the 2026/27 season, and with further improvement expected from Filthy second-up, the gelding looks well placed to break through in this maiden assignment.

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 6 No. 10 Eagle's Fire

There is plenty to like about Eagle's Fire returning to Ipswich, where he has recorded two top-three finishes from three appearances, including a runner-up effort over 1100m in a BM0-58 Handicap in July.

The wet track appeared to suit on that occasion, although the gelding has subsequently demonstrated his versatility with two seconds from three starts on Good surfaces.

Trained by Shirley Batten, the five-year-old came close to causing a major upset at the Gold Coast last start when finishing two lengths second at $26 in a 1000m Class 4 Handicap.

Only a progressive rival proved too strong after Eagle's Fire raced close to the speed, and another inside barrier should allow him to secure a favourable position in running.

Jett Newman retains the ride after partnering the gelding last start, and with the extra 100m unlikely to pose any problems, Eagle's Fire appeals as a value chance to return to winning form.

Fouchard Racing BM62 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 7 No. 9 Inquicktime

Inquicktime has made two appearances this preparation, with the better of those coming first-up at Beaudesert when finishing third over 1400m in a Class 2 Handicap on Good ground.

Sent around at big odds, the son of Invader produced a creditable performance to finish just under six lengths from the winner, although he was unable to build on that effort at the Gold Coast second-up.

The four-year-old finished last of 10 in BM62 company on that occasion, but there is reason to forgive the performance with the rise in distance looking a positive for Thursday's assignment.

A previous Soft-track victory at Ipswich in April provides further encouragement, with the gelding already proven at the circuit and likely to appreciate any rain that arrives before the meeting.

The booking of Ben Thompson catches the eye, and with a favourable draw in barrier five, Inquicktime could prove capable of surprising at generous odds.
