Warrnambool Best Bet - Race 3 No. 11 Girl With A Pearl

By Johannes Vermeer and from the same family as 2011 Turnbull Stakes winner December Draw, Girl With A Pearl is bred to appreciate more ground and both of her race-day performances have been better than the bare results suggest.

Sent around at a big price on debut over 1200m at Seymour on May 21, the filly showed clear ability when producing the fastest last 600m of the race and working home strongly from back in the field.

That form has since held up well through runner-up Star Of Macedon, who won on his seasonal return after closing out the winter with a stakes placing at Flemington.

Girl With A Pearl was then given a very cold ride first-up at Geelong, settling well back in a race dominated by those closer to the speed before finishing off as well as could be expected behind Stipulation, who had arrived off a runner-up finish to current Thousand Guineas favourite Regal Ambition, while Fringillo has also franked the form with a big win last week.

This country maiden looks to contain far less depth, the rise in distance should suit and the booking of Declan Bates gives Girl With A Pearl every chance to show the improvement expected second-up.

Warrnambool Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 10 Mack The Knife

Lindsey Smith has enjoyed a strong spring, striking at 27% in September before preparing three winners and a third from his first 13 starters in October, including a double at Hamilton on October 10.

The stable also produced the impressive Mr Natural at Geelong last week, and Mack The Knife looks another progressive type after enduring a luckless debut over 1500m at Ballarat on October 9, with this a very weak maiden assignment at start two.

The son of Satono Aladdin was respected in betting but never enjoyed the momentum a staying type needs, becoming held up in the straight before going to the line without being fully tested in a clear forgive performance.

His earlier public hit-outs over sprint trips were inconclusive, but there was much more to like about his October 1 Caulfield Heath trial when making ground for second in a heat won by Queensland Derby winner Warmonger.

Fred Kersley takes over for start two after partnering Mack The Knife in some of his lead-up work, including that Caulfield Heath trial, and he has a good record with the yard, striking at 20% for the Lindsey Smith stable over the past 12 months and better than 21% this season from four winners.

Warrnambool Value Bet - Race 7 No. 12 Share The Stars

Lightly raced five-year-old Share The Stars has done little wrong in 10 career starts for the William Morrissey stable, with the daughter of Overshare earning a deserved breakthrough via a three-and-a-half-length Werribee victory in April.

That maiden success followed a consistent start to 2026, beginning with a fourth before three consecutive placings, while her first preparation during the winter of 2025 had also hinted at above-average ability.

She was respected in betting for her Hamilton return on September 14 but produced the worst run of her career after beginning slowly and effectively losing her chance at the start.

A cleaner getaway followed at Ballarat second-up on September 30, where she was again ridden cold and unsuited by a slowly run race but still worked home strongly to record the fastest last 200m, finishing only half a length behind Perfect Night, who would be a short favourite in this.

Two August jump-outs suggested Share The Stars would improve with racing this preparation, and with two 1400m runs now providing a solid platform for the rise to 1700m, she has enough tactical versatility to overcome the wide draw and shapes as an each-way chance third-up.
