Ipswich Tips July 3

Ray White Ipswich QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Ipswich Favourite - Race 1 No. 3 Lune D’Excellence

The filly failed to make an impact when trailing home last-of-ten at Canterbury on debut last year.

Lune D'excellence has shown a marked improvement since returning from nearly a year off the track, finishing in the top four in all starts this time around.

Those efforts include second-place finishes in each of her last two outings and the first of those was via a 1400m maiden at the Gold Coas on June 7

She raced on a Soft 5 track when beaten one-and-a-half-lengths that day and the filly arrives here on the back of a metro second at Doomben just under two weeks ago.

The youngster was beaten just over half-a-length when racing over 1660m on good going on that occasion.

A Heavy 10 didn’t appear to be an issue when Lune D'excellence came home third-of-six at Newcastle three starts back and she looks capable of saluting from a wide alley.

Great Northern Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 4 Raging

The son of Russian Revolution has shown a liking for wet tracks, placing in three of his five attempts on wet ground.

While none of those have come on a heavy surface, Raging did perform well when third on a Soft 7 at the Sunshine Coast last time out.

The three-year-old was beaten less than a length, having raced on the pace that day and he has placed in three of his last four appearances.

The first of those top three finishes saw the gelding lose out by just under one-and-a-half-lengths when runner-up over 1200m here in May.

Raging usually races on the speed or from mid-division, as was the case when three lengths third over 1200m at Dalby two starts back.

He boasts an inside barrier for this contest, while apprentice Jade Metcalfe knows him well, having been on board three times this prep.

Tempus Two Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Around the Buoy

The New Zealand-bred galloper showed good form earlier this prep, including when third over 2050m at Doomben in early April.

Around The Buoy broke through for his first win of the season when taking out a 2150m Benchmark 58 handicap at this venue two starts later.

He raced on a Soft 5 track that day and went on to complete a course double when racing on a Heavy 8 surface at the end of May.

The gelding came home just under a length clear of his rivals when jumping from a wide barrier in a 2200m Benchmark 70 handicap on that occasion.

While the son of Savabeel failed to complete a hat-trick via a Benchmark 78 here last time, he registered a respectable fifth-place finish.

A return to a forecast wet track is a positive here, while the drop in grade is another tick.

Red Bull Australia Class 2 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Dubious Six

Nick Keal’s representative has performed well in all three starts, having joined the Toowoomba trainer prior to resuming at this home track three starts back.

The three-year-old debuted for the stable with a two-length third when contesting a 870m maiden held on a Heavy 8 trackin May.

Dubious Six raced from mid-division that day, with connections switching to front-running tactics when breaking his maiden over 1000m two weeks later.

The youngster narrowly missed out on back-to-back victories when runner-up on June 14 and that winner had been racing consistently.

The extra distance here is expected to suit, while a heavy surface shouldn't trouble Dubious Six.

Connections have stuck with apprentice Kelsey Lenton and the pair may prove up to defying a wide barrier.
